(Upgrade Coming) SkypeOut Contacts Shown As Numbers
The current Keyspan software receives SkypeOut contacts as numbers and not as the actual contact name. We are working on an upgrade that will report the contact name (instead of the SkypeOut number). This version is expected to be released for both Mac and Windows before the end of January 2007.
- 4-Port Print Server's USB light blinks slowly
-
When I connect a USB device (i.e Flash drive, Scanner, Hard Drive, Camera etc) to the Keyspan 4-Port Print Server (PS-4A), the green USB light on the PS-4A blinks slowly and I can’t use my USB devices. Why?
The green blinking USB light (next to the USB port) on the Print Server means that your USB device either 1) It is not a USB printer or 2) It does NOT present itself as regular USB printer. Keyspan Print Server (PS-4A) allows you to share your USB PRINTER(S) through your network. It will not support other devices that are not printers (ie Hard Drive, Flash Drive, Scanner, Camera etc). Note: If you have a USB Printer that causes the Print Server's USB light's to blink, please contact Keyspan for further support.

The 'Separate Compound Devices' checkbox in the Keyspan Server Utility will separate USB devices if the USB device: A) has multiple components in it (ie a multifunction printer) AND B) is a COMPOUND USB device. Note, not all USB devices are COMPOUND devices. In other cases, some devices that are compound devices may only show cerain components as individual items (ie a multifunction printer may only show the fax and printer as a seperate component but not the scanner). In yet other cases, some devices that have no apparent need for being compound devices will be compund devices (certain thumb drives and mice will show up as compound devices).

- AirPort Express AirTunes Port Number (3689)
-
What port does AirPort Express (AirTunes) use to communicate with the Keyspan Express Remote?
What port does the device use?
Port 3689. AirPort Express (AirTunes) uses port 3689 to communicate with the Keyspan Express Remote. IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT FIREWALLS: Most firewalls block ports above 1024 (including port 3689). If you have a firewall enabled, you may not be able to immediately use your Express Remote connected to an AirPort Express. To resolve this issue, either enable (aka create a hole/exception for) port 3689 on firewall or disable your firewall. See your firewall's instructions for details on how to do this. ADDITIONAL INFO: Often, firewalls will allow outgoing data on port 3689 but will not allow incoming data on the same port. This causes music to play from iTunes to your AirPort Express but commands coming from the Keyspan Express Remote (via the AirPort Express) will not be received by iTunes (and thefore volume control, previous/next track, etc. will not work). To solve this problem, enable (aka create a hole/exception for) port 3689 on firewall or disable your firewall. See your firewall's instructions for details on how to do this.
- Apple Laserwriter 16/600 PS Compatibility
-
Is the Apple Laserwriter 16/600 PS compatible with any Keyspan product?
The Apple Laserwriter 16/600 PS is an Apple Laser printer. This printer shipped with Localtalk, Ethernet, and Parallel Ports. Keyspan does not have any products that would connect this printer to Mac that does not have a built in serial ports. Although Keyspan does sell a USB to Serial adapter, serial ports are not the same thing as a LocalTalk port. Because of this technical difference, Keyspan USB to Serial adapters will not work with this printer. Keyspan does sell a USB to Parallel product (http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/up6c/) that may work with this printer under Mac OS X however this requires you to obtain a driver (from Apple or a 3rd party) that would compatible with: a) your Laserwriter 16/600, b) Mac OS X, and most importantly, c) a USB to Parallel cable. This configuration is not supported. This printer can be connected via Ethernet by using a 'Ethernet Transceiver' (AAUI to RJ-45). Once you connect the Laserwriter 16/600 via Ethernet, you can print from both Mac OS X and Mac OS 9 computers. For more information, read your printer's manual for more information.

- Auto-Connect Checkboxes Don't Stay Checked

but won't stay "auto connected" with my iMac ... as soon as I close the window, the "boxes" become "unchecked."
The Keyspan Server settings for Auto-Connect are kept in the following file: com.keyspan.KeyspanNHCI.plist This file is located in [yourHardDriveName]/Library/Preferences/ If you the Auto-Connect check boxes do not stay checked, it is because there is a permission issue with this files (either the file doesn't have the right permission or you account doesn't have the right permissions to access/modify this file). Here are some possible workarounds for this problem: * Close the Keyspan Server Utility, delete the 'com.keyspan.KeyspanNHCI.plist' and reboot. * Run Verify Permissions/Repair Permissions on your hard drive * login as a user with administrator privileges and see if the problem goes away. If you still have this issue after trying these workarounds, please contact Keyspan tech support. Please be sure to mention if you have more than one hard drive icon on your desktop or if you computer is setup to get it's HOME account from a different computer or hard drive/partition.

- Blinking Green Light - What Does It Mean?
-
I connected a serial device to Keyspan USB Serial Adapter, but the Serial light keeps blinking slowly on the adapter. I can’t communicate to my serial device.
Why does the green serial light keeps flashing?
What does the green blinking light on Key
Some Keyspan USB to Serial Adapters (part# USA-19QW, USA-19Qi, USA-19HS, USA-49W, USA-49WLC, MPR-112) have a status light (or lights) that indicate a port status. This light means several things but a slow blinking light means that: a) the Keyspan adapter has been installed correctly (both software and hardware) b) the Keyspan adapter has created it's serial port in your operating system (COM port on Windows, serial port on Mac) c) the Keyspan adapter's serial port is IDLE AND NOT IN USE BY YOUR SERIAL DEVICE'S SOFTWARE. d) the Keyspan serial port is ready for use e) that you have not yet configured your software to use the Keyspan serial port (COM port on Windows, serial port on Mac). A slow blinking serial light is NORMAL when you first install your Keyspan adapter however you want to see a FAST blinking light or SOLID light (light is ON but not blinking) when you actually use your serial device's software (the 'serial device' is the device connected to the Keyspan adapter (ie a GPS) and the serial device's software is the software that communicates, via the Keyspan adapter, to your serial device (ie mapping software that communicates with a GPS)). If you constantly get a slow blinking light, please make sure that you have verified the Keyspan serial port name in the Keyspan Serial Assistant (WINDOWS: located in START menu -> (All) Programs -> Keyspan xyz -> Keyspan xyz Serial Assistant | MAC OS X: located in (your hard drive)/Applications/ | Mac OS 8-9: located in APPLE menu -> Control Panels -> Keyspan xyz Serial Assistant) and that you have selected that serial port name in your serial device's software. If you still get a slow blinking light, contact Keyspan for support. Additional Notes/Clarification: A slow blinking green light indicates 'IDLE' port status. That means the Keyspan adapter software and hardware are working properly. The Keyspan serial port is available for use and no program is currently using the Keyspan serial port. A solid green light is indicates 'BUSY' port status. That means the Keyspan serial port is 'in use' by an application on your computer and is ready to send and receive data to and from your serial device. A fast blinking green light is indicated that the Keyspan serial port is sending and/or receiving data.
- Blinking USB light on USB Server/4-Port Print Server
-
What does the blinking USB light mean on my USB Server/4-Port Print Server?
Why does a non-printer device cause a "slow blinking" USB status light when connected to the PS-4A?
When I plug a USB device into a port on the Keyspan Server, the device ap
The green blinking USB light (next to the USB port) on the USB Server (part# US-4A)/4-Port Print Server (part# PS-4A) means that your USB device is either: * an 'isochronous' USB device (not supported on US-4A/PS-4A) * an unsupported USB device (On the US-4A, a PACE security dongle. On the PS-4A, any non-printer device) * resetting the USB port. USB devices can reset USB ports. Some USB devices will do this incorrectly and constantly reset the port. If you have a USB device that causes the USB Server's USB light's to blink, please contact Keyspan for further support. When you contact Keyspan support, please provide the following information: * the name and model number of the USB device that caused the blinking light (ie Palm 500, HP Deskjet 1100, etc) * your Keyspan server's NETWORK ADDRESS (printed on the bottom of your Keyspan Server) This information will assist us in solving this issue for you. Notes For 4-Port Printer Users: If you have a 4-Port Print Server and get a blinking USB light when you connect a scanner, please note that the PS-4A only supports printers. Additional Notes: Version 1.0.x of the USB Server firmware/software did not support embedded USB hub and will cause a blinking USB light. Upgrade to version 1.3 or later to solve this issue.
- Bootcamp Compatibility (Windows booted on Intel Mac)
-
Is My Keyspan device compatible with Bootcamp (Windows booted on Intel Mac)?
Does Keyspan support Apple's Bootcamp?
Apple's software that lets you install Windows XP on your Intel based Mac, allows your Mac hardware to boot directly into Windows. This makes your Mac hardware into a 'real Windows computer'. Because of your Mac is running Windows directly, your Mac is identical to any other Windows PC. This gives you the same functionality, performance, and reliability of USB/Serial/Parallel/etc that you would find on a 'real Windows computer' (as opposed to Windows running in an emulator ie VirtualPC/Parallels). At this point, any Keyspan device that has Windows drivers is compatible with Bootcamp. Please note that certain Keyspan products are Mac only like the USA-28X (Windows never had Din8 connectors therefore most Windows apps don't know how to communicate with Din8 ports). In short, if your Mac supports Bootcamp and you have Keyspan product that shipped with Windows drivers, this will work and it is 100% supported by Keyspan. ADDITIONAL NOTE: Bootcamp, as of July 2006, is beta software. This information may change but Keyspan does not expect it to. However, this will only be determine when Apple releases Bootcamp as a non-beta software.

BUG (Fix Coming) 0x1a3d Phones Don't Display Contacts
Certain Keyspan Cordless Phones with a PID of 0x1a3d do not display contact details when used on a Mac. Keyspan is aware of this issue. We have an internal fix for this issue in testing. This version is expected to be released for Mac before the end of January 2007. To be notified when this fix is released, subscribe to this FAQ by clicking the 'Notify Me...' button at the bottom of this FAQ. - - - - - - - - - - Background Info - - - - - - - - - - A small percentage of Keyspan Cordless Phones were incorrectly manufactured to have a Product ID code of '0x1a3d'. This product ID is used by the Keyspan software to load the Keyspan software and show your contacts on the phone. Since the Keyspan software is not expecting the '0x1a3d' phone, the software doesn't load. We have identified the issue and we are releasing a new version of software that works with this Product ID. All USB devices have a Vendor ID and Product ID (aka VID and PID). VIDs and PIDs are used to determine which driver needs to be loaded. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - How To Determine If You Have A 0x1a3d Phone - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - On Mac OS X: 1. Connect the Keyspan's phone's USB receiver in your computer's USB port. 2. Go to the Apple menu (blue Apple icon in the upper left corner of your screen) and select ABOUT THIS MAC. This will open a new window. 3. In the new window, click the MORE INFO... button. This will launch the SYSTEM PROFILER application. 4. In the SYSTEM PROFILER application, locate and select the USB heading in the leftmost column. This will show all the the USB devices detected by your computer. Find and select the entry called 'USB Headset'. This will show you the details of the Keyspan phone. If the PRODUCT ID is shown as '0x1a3f' , you have a phone that will display contacts correctly. If the PRODUCT ID is shown as '0x1a3d' , you have a phone that requires new software from Keyspan that will display contacts correctly.
