Direct-Connect KVM Switches
As the name implies, Direct-Connect KVMs (also called Analog KVMs) connect directly to the equipment being controlled and do not rely on a network connection. This makes Direct-Connect KVMs fast, extremely secure, and able to operate when networks are down. They are also less expensive per port than their digital counterparts.
Network (IP) KVM Switches
Network (or Digital) KVMs transmit the video, keyboard and mouse actions to and from connected equipment over standard LAN or Internet connections. This allows network engineers to use existing network cabling and without distance limitations, a feature that multi-national organizations find especially beneficial.
Console Servers
Console Servers provide secure, in-band and out-of-band access to network devices including servers, UPS systems, PDUs, routers, switches and firewalls in remote, heterogeneous data centers and server rooms. In fact, any device with a DB9 or DB25 serial port can be remotely accessed and managed with these console servers.
