Remote Control for FrontRow

  • 60+ ft. RF Range
  • Works through walls and furniture
  • Sleek 9 button remote

The RF Remote Control for Front Row is a sleek and powerful RF remote control designed specifically for use with Apple's Front Row multimedia software. It provides more range, convenience and flexibility than infrared remotes.

Key Features

  • Range: The RF Remote for Front Row provides a range of 60 feet or more (about twice the distance of infrared remotes).
  • Convenience: Unlike an infrared remote, this RF remote does not require line of sight to the receiver. This allows you to manage Front Row from more areas within the room or even from other areas of your house.
  • Flexibility: Since the RF signal works through walls and furniture, you have more flexibility in locating the Macintosh that will be used to run Front Row. For example, you can place a Mac mini inside an entertainment center cabinet or within an AV closet and still easily control Front Row with the remote.

System Requirements

  • An available USB port; Mac OS 10.4 (or later)
  • FrontRow software installed

This remote control is designed specifically for use with Front Row. It will also work with other applications that use the same keystrokes as Front Row. It is compatible with all Macintosh CPUs -- including the Intel-based Macintosh computers.

PowerBook/MacBook Trackpad Doesn't Work When My Keyspan Remote Is Connected
If your PowerBook's trackpad stops working when you connect your Keyspan Remote's RF receiver (Easy Presenter or Presentation Remote), you probably have the "IGNORE TRACKPAD WHEN MOUSE IS PRESENT" option enabled. This happens because your Keyspan RF receiver is seen by your computer as both a keyboard AND a mouse. Since a 'mouse is present', your trackpad will be disabled. This only happens when the "IGNORE TRACKPAD WHEN MOUSE IS PRESENT" option is enabled. You should also experience when connecting any USB mouse to your computer. To disable "IGNORE TRACKPAD WHEN MOUSE IS PRESENT" on Mac OS X, do the following: 1. Go to the APPLE menu (in the menu bar) and select SYSTEM PREFERENCES. This will open a SYSTEM PREFERENCES window. 2. Select the KEYBOARD & MOUSE icon. This will show you the KEYBOARD & MOUSE window. 3. In the KEYBOARD & MOUSE window, click the TRACKPAD tab. 4. In the TRACKPAD tab, locate the IGNORE TRACKPAD WHEN MOUSE IS PRESENT checkbox (at the bottom of the window) and 'uncheck' this option (there should not be a checkmark in the checkbox). 5. Your trackpad should now work when you connect your Keyspan RF receiver. To solve this issue, simply disable “Ignore Track-pad When Mouse Is Present” option and you should be able to use your track-pad while Keyspan Presentation Remote/Easy Presenter USB receiver. Note: If you connect Keyspan Presentation Remote/Easy Presenter receiver to OS X 10.4.x machine, OS 10.4.x will detect a new external “Keyboard”. It might launch “Keyboard Setup Assistant” and try to install this new “Keyboard”. This is the new feature of Tiger OS 10.4.x. Just simply close this “Keyboard Setup Assistant”. Then you should be able to use your Keyspan Presentation Remote or Keyspan Easy Presenter.

Troubleshooting: RF Remote for Front Row
Does the light light up at all? If it does, do the following: 1. Disconnect and reconnect the receiver to your USB port. You will notice a red light on the receiver. Next to that light, there is a button that is the same shape and size as the light. Press that button. This will cause the light to blink. Did the light blink? If not, press it again until it blinks. If it never blinks, you are either not pressing hard enough of you have a defective receiver. At this point, it is best to contact techsupport@tripplite.com for further instruction (please let us know that the receiver light does not blink when you press it). If the light blinks, proceed to step 2. 2. Now that the receiver is blinking, take the remote and press any button. When you do this, the receiver should detect your button press and stop blinking. Did the receiver stop blinking? If not, press and hold any button on the remote. Does the light on the remote light up? If not the remote is turned off (see switch on the back of the remote), has bad batteries, or is defective If the light stopped blinking, proceed to step 3. 3. At this point, press any button on the remote. The light on the remote will blink (indicating that a button press has been detected) and the light on the receiver should be blinking (indicating that the receiver has received a command from the remote). Did your computer respond accordingly? Press the volume up/down key. Did the volume icon appear indicating volume change? If it did, the remote and receiver are working. If not, contact Tripp Lite tech support and let us know that you followed this troubleshooting guide and made it to the last step without resolution. We will direct you from there.
Why doesn't the Menu button on my Front Row remote start Front Row? Other buttons work but the Menu button doesn't.
If other buttons work on your RF Remote for Front Row but the Menu button doesn't please read this FAQ. By default, when you press the menu button on the Keyspan RF Remote for Front Row, the remote sends the following keystroke: [command+esc] Command+Esc is the Apple's default shortcut for launching Front Row. If you have remapped this shortcut to something else, the menu button on the Keyspan remote will not launch Front Row. To fix this issue, please do the following: 1. Go to your APPLE menu (blue apple icon in upper left hand corner of your screen) and select SYSTEM PREFERENCES... 2. In the SYSTEM PREFERENCES window, select KEYBOARD & MOUSE. 3. In the KEYBOARD & MOUSE window, select the KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS tab. 4. In the KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS tab, make sure that the Front Row is checked. Next, find the shortcut labeled HIDE AND SHOW FRONT ROW. Double click the shortcut and then press [command+esc] on your keyboard to assign it back to the appropriate keystroke. 5. Close the KEYBOARD & MOUSE window The menu button will now work since you have told Front Row to respond to the [command+esc] keystroke that is sent by the Keyspan remote.
