Overview

Keyspan-by-Tripp Lite's Easy Presenter Remote Control provides complete PowerPoint and Keynote control -- including audio control -- plus a laser pointer. It's feature set, simplicity and affordability make it an attractive solution for presenters in business and education.

* Do the Keyspan Remotes work with the Windows 7 Operating System?

The PR Series (PR-EZ1, PR-US2 and PR-PRO3) use the HID drivers, which are part of the Microsoft OS platform. Because no additional software is required, and the remotes are truly plug-and-play, they are Windows 7 compatible. In addition, the RF Remote (ER-V2) for Windows Vista is also compatible with Windows 7.

The PREZ1 uses a 5 volt Lithium battery number CR2032

Changing Your Easy Presenter Remote's ID

To change your remote's ID, first turn your remote on using the on/off switch on the back of the remote. Next follow these steps... Step 1. PRESS AND HOLD the Change ID button on the back of the Easy Presenter remote control until the remote's STATUS light blinks. You remote will now have a new ID. Step 2. Connect the Easy Presenter receiver to your computer's USB port. Next, press the PAIR button on the receiver (there are two 'buttons' on the receiver. One is a Receiver status light (red). The other is the PAIR button. Press the PAIR button once and the status light will blink slowly. QUICKLY press any button on the REMOTE. The receiver will pair with the new remote using the new ID. Step 3. Try the remote and see if it works. If does, you're done. If doesn't, try again (see the notes below). Additional Notes: You may need to repeat this step if there are multiple active Easy Presenters in the vicinity of the receiver.

Corel Presentations X3 compatibility

Keyspan's Presenation Remotes have been tested to work Corel Presentations X3. By default. Corel Presentations X3 uses the same commands as PowerPoint to navigate between slides once you are in Slide Show mode. Because of this, your can use the next/previous slide buttons on our remotes to move between slides. Unlike PowerPoint, Corel Presentations X3 does not use F5 to start Slide Show mode. If your Keyspan remote has an F5 key and you want to use that button to start a Corel Presentations Slide Show, you need to access Corel Presentations' settings to remap F5 keyboard shortcut to Start Slide Show (Corel Presentations online help shows how to map keyboard shortcuts). Difference between the Keyspan Remotes URM-15A, URM-15T, and URM-17A

If you are controlling programs besides PowerPoint and Keynote, the PR-US2 and PR-PRO3 are better suited since they include mouse control. If you don't need mouse control, the PREZ1 is a great remote since it is entirely button based. This makes it easy for people to control powerpoint since there's less buttons. Do I Need Any Software To Enable F5 (start slideshow)? Does the unit that plugs into the computer have the "stuff" to activate the F5 button? Does it need any software?

The F5 key on the Easy Presenter sends out the F5 keystroke just as if it was sent from your keyboard. This does not require ANY software. F5 is typically used to start PowerPoint's slideshow mode on Windows versions of PowerPoint. F5 is also used by other presentation software to start their slideshow modes. On Macs, F5 is not a standardized to start a slide show. Because of this, Keyspan has released special software to remap the F5 command to the keystroke equivalent of 'start slideshow' in PowerPoint and Keynote. This software is optional and only need if you want to use F5 to start a slideshow in Keynote or PowerPoint on a Mac OS X computer. Does Keyspan have any Windows NT compatible products? Why doesn't the Keyspan File Transfer Cable load/install on Windows NT?

Most Keyspan products require at least Windows 98 or better. For specific information about a certain product's minimum system requirements, please see that product's documentation and our web page on Keyspan's website. Windows NT is often not supported due to the stability of USB drivers on Windows NT. Additional Info About the UFT-125 (Keyspan File Transfer Cable) Please note that the 'parallel' side of the UFT-125 is not supported on Windows NT. How do I turn OFF/ON the Easy Presenter? Do I need or is there a way to turn the Easy Presenter off when it is not in use.

The Easy Presenter (part# PR-EZ1 - http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/prez1/) has a convenient to use ON/OFF switch on the back of the remote control unit. Just set the switch to the desired position. By setting the remote to OFF, all of the buttons are disabled (including the laser pointer). This allows you to store your remote without worrying about buttons being pressed on the remote and draining the batteries.

How long does the battery last in the Presentation Remote/Easy Presenter?

The Easy Presenter's battery (CR2032) should last approximately one year under most usage conditions. To help ensure that you receive the maximum battery life, it is recommended that TURN OFF the remote by setting the REMOTE'S ON/SWITCH to OFF. The On/Off switch is located on the back of the remote. If the switch is constantly set to ON, your battery may drain over the course of a few hours if the battery is inside your remote ANDsomething is continually pressing one of your remote's buttons (ie if the remote is in a tight computer bag, objects are pressing against the face of the remote, etc.). IMPORTANT NOTE: Battery life will vary depending on usage. Keyspan's warranty service does not cover battery replacement. If your battery did not work when you initially purchased the Keyspan Presentation Remote, please return the remote to your reseller for a replacement. Additional Info: Replacement batteries can be purchased at locations like Radioshack (in the US) and at most resellers where hearing aid and watch batteries are sold.

How To Make One Easy Presenter Remote Control Multiple Computers Can I set all three units to the same ID so that it can advance 3 separate computers running powerpoint at the same time?

You can control multiple computers simultaneously using one Easy Presenter Remote 'remote control' AND multiple Easy Presenter 'receivers' (note, this requires that you purchase multiple Easy Presenter packages - each Easy Presenter include one remote control and one USB receiver). First, make sure that your remote control can control receivers. Using one computer, connect one receiver and try to control it with your remote. Next, disconnect the first receiver and connect the second receiver. If you can control both receivers with one remote, just connect the second receiver to the second computer. Repeat the first step for all your Easy Presenter receiver. If you can't control the Easy Presenter receiver, 'pair' the Easy Presenter receiver with your remote. To do this, connect this receiver to a computer. Next, press the receiver's Sync Remote Button on the RF receiver (the button that doesn’t have a light). This will cause the red light on the RE receiver to blink. Next, press any button on the remote. This will Sync/pair the remote and the receiver together. You will now be able control this computer (and, by default, the previous computers too). If you need additional help with setting up one remote to control multiple computers, contact Keyspan for further help.

Is My Keyspan device compatible with Bootcamp (Windows booted on Intel Mac)? Does Keyspan support Apple's Bootcamp?

Apple's software that lets you install Windows XP on your Intel based Mac, allows your Mac hardware to boot directly into Windows. This makes your Mac hardware into a 'real Windows computer'. Because of your Mac is running Windows directly, your Mac is identical to any other Windows PC. This gives you the same functionality, performance, and reliability of USB/Serial/Parallel/etc that you would find on a 'real Windows computer' (as opposed to Windows running in an emulator ie VirtualPC/Parallels). At this point, any Keyspan device that has Windows drivers is compatible with Bootcamp. Please note that certain Keyspan products are Mac only like the USA-28X (Windows never had Din8 connectors therefore most Windows apps don't know how to communicate with Din8 ports). In short, if your Mac supports Bootcamp and you have Keyspan product that shipped with Windows drivers, this will work and it is 100% supported by Keyspan. ADDITIONAL NOTE: Bootcamp, as of July 2006, is beta software. This information may change but Keyspan does not expect it to. However, this will only be determine when Apple releases Bootcamp as a non-beta software.

I've lost and/or broken my Keyspan remote or receiver. Can I order a replacement remote or receiver from Keyspan? Is there any way I could just buy a new receiver or remote?

Replacement receivers are no longer available for Keyspan remote products.

'Keyboard identification' window appears when Keyspan receiver is connected Mac OS X 10.4

Mac OS X 10.4 includes a new feature that helps you setup USB keyboards on your computer. You will get the 'Keyboard identification' window anytime you connect a new USB keyboard that your Mac OS X 10.4 computer has not seen before. This window asks to type certain letters on the connected keyboard. The Keyspan Presentation Remote (PR-US2, PR-EU2, TSAM-001) and the Keyspan Easy Presenter are seen by your computer as a keyboard (and mouse in the case of the Presentation Remote). This is what allows you to use these remotes without installing any software. If you get this message, please close the 'Keyboard identification' window. Mac OS X will remember that you closed this window and it will not popup again. Your remote will work once you close this window. If your remote does not work, please sync/pair your remote to receiver again.

Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Compatibility

Note: This FAQ will be updating frequently during the 60 days after Mac OS X 10.5's release. Keyspan has tested our products under prerelease versions of 10.5. The following information is based on this testing and should apply to the public release of 10.5. We will be testing the public version of 10.5 after it has been released on Oct 26, 2007. Our results will be updated here. Please note that many of our products are used by other applications (ie Palm software uses our serial ports to communicate with Palm handhelds, Skype software and our VoIP phone, GPS software with GPS hardware connected via a Keyspan adapter). Please make sure that your 3rd party software (ie Palm software, GPS software, etc) is 10.5 compatible. USB to Serial Adapters (any USA-xxx model adapter, any UPR-xxx port replicator) Software version 2.4 or later - COMPATIBLE USB/Print Server (US4A, PS4A, U2S2A) COMPATIBLE Update to software version 2.1b4. An uninstaller is also available (v2.1b3). This version has been posted on our downloads page. Software version 2.0.1 or earlier - NOT COMPATIBLE. We will be releasing an update shortly to address 10.5 issues. Do not install v2.0.1 or earlier on 10.5. Step 1 - Check the remote/battery - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The first thing to do is to check the battery on Keyspan Easy Presenter remote. To do this, please press and hold the Laser button. If you don’t see any laser beam, then flip over the remote control. On the back of the remote control, make sure the power switch is put to “ON” position and the transparent battery protector film is removed. Now, press Laser button again. If you still don’t see any laser beam or it just blinks, please replace the battery. Keyspan Easy Presenter uses CR2032 battery. If you see the laser beam, the battery is fine. Please continue to next step. Step 2 - Check the receiver - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Connect the receiver to your computer. Then... Mac Users: Check the Apple System Profiler (ASP) for the Keyspan RF Remote For Mac OS X: Open the Apple System Profile. To do this, go to the APPLE menu, select ABOUT THIS MAC and then click the MORE INFO button. In the ASP, find the USB heading and you should see a item called 'USB RF Combo Device' In Mac OS 8/9, go to the APPLE menu and select APPLE SYSTEM PROFILER (ASP). In Mac OS X, in the ASP find the USB heading and you should see two items named “Keyboard (USB RF Combo Device)” and “HID (USB RF Combo Device)”. (In Mac OS 9 - 10.2.x, the USB heading is found under the DEVICES AND VOLUMES tab). If you did not see the “USB RF Combo Device” in Mac OS X or “Keyboard (USB RF Combo Device)” and “HID (USB RF Combo Device” in Mac OS 8/9, please contact Keyspan. Otherwise please continue to step #3. Windows Users: Check the DEVICE MANAGER for the HID COMPLIANT MOUSE and KEYBOARD devices. For Windows 98 SE and ME, To open the DEVICE MANAGER., right click the MY COMPUTER icon and then select PROPERTIES. Next, select the DEVICE MANAGER. For Windows 2000 and XP, Right click the MY COMPUTER icon and then select PROPERTIES. Next, select the HARDWARE tab and then click the DEVICE MANAGER button. In the DEVICE MANAGER, find the heading for KEYBOARD. Click the '+' [plus] sign to see all the 'keyboard hardware' your computer 'see'. You should see an entry for 'HID compliant xxyy' (ie 'HID Keyboard Device'). Next, go to the MICE AND OTHER INPUT DEVICES and then Click the '+' [plus] sign to see all the 'keyboard hardware' your computer 'see'. You should see an entry for 'HID compliant xxyy' (ie 'HID Compliant Mouse'). If you did not see the 'USB RF Combo Device' item on Mac or the 'HID Compliant xxx' item on Windows, contact Keyspan. If you did see the 'USB RF Combo Device' item on Mac or the 'HID Compliant xxx' item on Windows, go to Step 3. Step 3 - Re-sync your remote to your receiver - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To re-sync your remote to your receiver, connect the receiver to your computer's USB port and press the “Change ID Button” on the back of the remote. Next hit [press the button and release] the Sync Remote Button on the RF receiver. (the button that doesn’t have a light). The will cause the Red Light on the RF receiver to blink and it tells the receiver to listen for sync message from your remote control. Next, on your remote control, press any button on the remote. This will send the sync message to receiver and you will be able to immediately use the Presentation Remote with the new ID. !!! IMPORTANT!!! IMPORTANT!!! IMPORTANT!!! This step must be performed quickly. You should try this several times to ensure that the receiver gets the re-sync command immediately after you hit the Sync Remote Button on the receiver. Also, make sure that you really are press the Sync Remote Button on the receiver. You should feel a button being pressed Status Light should blink. !!! IMPORTANT!!! IMPORTANT!!! IMPORTANT!!! Try controlling the PowerPoint/Keynote with your Easy Presenter. If you are unable to control your PowerPoint/Keynote with the Easy Presenter, contact Keyspan. If you are able to control your PowerPoint/Keynote with the Easy Presenter, your remote is ready for use.

News and Updates: Mac OS X for Intel Drivers (Universal Binaries)

06.22.2006 - Mac OS X for Intel Beta Drivers Posted UPDATE: USB Serial Adapter Software Finalized (GMed) Keyspan has posted 'Universal Binaries' for certain Keyspan products. 'Universal Binaries' can be used on Intel-based Macs (with 10.4.3 or later) and Motorola based Macs (ie G3, G4, and G5 Macs). Important Note: If you have an Intel based Mac, please UNINSTALL any previously installed Keyspan software PRIOR to installing these BETAs. Failure to do so will may cause your computer to become unstable. Please note: This software can be used on Macs without Intel processors. A Note About Betas: Beta software is software that has not been fully tested under every possible configure. Keyspan will release public betas to get feedback on upcoming software and to find any potential bugs in the new beta. If you are uncomfortable with installing betas, please do not install this software and wait for the 'GM' aka Golden Master release that will follow the beta release. PowerBook/MacBook Trackpad Doesn't Work When My Keyspan Remote Is Connected

If your PowerBook's trackpad stops working when you connect your Keyspan Remote's RF receiver (Easy Presenter or Presentation Remote), you probably have the "IGNORE TRACKPAD WHEN MOUSE IS PRESENT" option enabled. This happens because your Keyspan RF receiver is seen by your computer as both a keyboard AND a mouse. Since a 'mouse is present', your trackpad will be disabled. This only happens when the "IGNORE TRACKPAD WHEN MOUSE IS PRESENT" option is enabled. You should also experience when connecting any USB mouse to your computer. To disable "IGNORE TRACKPAD WHEN MOUSE IS PRESENT" on Mac OS X, do the following: 1. Go to the APPLE menu (in the menu bar) and select SYSTEM PREFERENCES. This will open a SYSTEM PREFERENCES window. 2. Select the KEYBOARD & MOUSE icon. This will show you the KEYBOARD & MOUSE window. 3. In the KEYBOARD & MOUSE window, click the TRACKPAD tab. 4. In the TRACKPAD tab, locate the IGNORE TRACKPAD WHEN MOUSE IS PRESENT checkbox (at the bottom of the window) and 'uncheck' this option (there should not be a checkmark in the checkbox). 5. Your trackpad should now work when you connect your Keyspan RF receiver. To solve this issue, simply disable “Ignore Track-pad When Mouse Is Present” option and you should be able to use your track-pad while Keyspan Presentation Remote/Easy Presenter USB receiver. Note: If you connect Keyspan Presentation Remote/Easy Presenter receiver to OS X 10.4.x machine, OS 10.4.x will detect a new external “Keyboard”. It might launch “Keyboard Setup Assistant” and try to install this new “Keyboard”. This is the new feature of Tiger OS 10.4.x. Just simply close this “Keyboard Setup Assistant”. Then you should be able to use your Keyspan Presentation Remote or Keyspan Easy Presenter.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2003's Presenter View mode uses the following keystrokes: Space or Right Arrow - Advance to the next animation/slide Backspace or Left Arrow - Return to previous animation/slide Page Up - Scrolls Speaker's notes up Page Down - Scroll Speaker's notes down Note: This issue only affects users that a) use PowerPoint 2003 AND b) use PowerPoint 2003's Presenters View option. If you do not use Presenter View, this will not affect you. If you press Up or Down arrow keys on your Keyboard when you are using Presenter View mode, slides will keep forwarding in Microsoft PowerPoint 2003. Since Keyspan Easy Presenter version B is preprogramed to send out Up (backward button) or Down (Forward button) keystroke to your computer, thus slides would keep forwarding even you press the backward button on the remote. The Forward ad Backward buttons on Keyspan Presentation Remote Pro (PR-PRO3 - http://www.keyspan.com/products/PR-PRO3/) is pre-programmed to send out Left or Right keystrokes to the computer, thus it works fine with Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 Presenter View or regular mode.

Software/Drivers: Easy Presenter (Model# PR-EZ1)

The Keyspan Easy Presenter (part# PR-EZ1) is seen as a USB keyboard and USB mouse by your computer. Because of this, there are no Keyspan drivers needed in order for you to start using your Easy Presenter. Windows (98/98SE/Me/2000/XP), Mac OS (Mac OS 8.6 (or later)), and Mac OS X (Mac OS X 10.2.x, 10.3.x, and 10.4.x) all have builtin drivers. Note for Windows 98, 98 SE, and Me Users: On Windows 98, 98 SE, and Me computers, USB keyboards/mice drivers may not be installed by default (depending on how your computer's manufacturer decided to ship your system). If you get the ADD HARDWARE WIZARD tell you that it cannot locate the appropriate driver, please point the ADD HARDWARE WIZARD to point to the Windows system disk (that came with your computer) to get the USB keyboard and USB mouse drivers on your computer. Note for Mac Users: The F5 key on Easy Presenter is used to start a presentation using 'slideshow mode' on Windows. On Macs, F5 does not do anything. Keyspan has released an optional software driver that will enable the F5 key to start a slide show in either PowerPoint or Keynote. The message 'The Installer package 'xxx' cannot be opened. The Bill of Materials for this package was not found.' means that installer.app is having problems with the .pkg installer that you have downloaded. This means that that your .pkg file is corrupted. In general, there are two causes of this problem. The original pkg file was corrupted before you received it or the pkg file was corrupted as it was extracted/expanded after it was downloaded. Since Keyspan's downloads are tested before they are posted, the usual cause of this problem (here at Keyspan) is that your file expander (ie Stuffit or Stuffit Expander) is corrupting the file. To fix this issue, we recommend that you: 1. delete all of downloaded Keyspan files (pkg files and zip files) 2. re-download the Keyspan file(s). This time, don't use Stuffit/Stuffit Expander. Instead, find the Keyspan .zip file, select the file (aka highlight it), right click or control-click on the zip file (to open the contextual submenu), select OPEN WITH > BOMArchive Helper. This will open the file with Apple's utility and create a new .pkg file. 3. run/double-click the new pkg file. If you have any questions, please contact Keyspan support. FYI... Upgrading to the latest version of Stuffit and/or Stuffit Expander can sometimes fix this issue as well.

Two Versions of the Easy Presenter

Since the Easy Presenter, there have been two versions of the Easy Presenter remote control. Initial shipments of the Easy Presenter came with remote 'version A'. Current and future versions will ship with remote 'version B'. The remotes are the same shape and size with only the following the differences: * the next and previous buttons on version A map to Page Up/Down. The version B remote maps to up/down. * the laser pointer location is different. On version A, the button is on the lower part of the remote's face. On version B, the button is above the volume up button.

Using Multiple Easy Presenters In Close Proximity By default, all Keyspan Easy Presenter remotes and receivers are uniquely paired together. In most case, you can buy two remotes and start using them in the same room (or in close proximity to each other) without any problems. However, in some cases you may find two remote/receiver sets that use the same pairing IDs. In this case, just change the ID on one of the remotes and tell its receiver to listen to the new ID. Next follow these steps... Step 1. Press the Change ID button on the back of the Easy Presenter remote control. You remote will now have a new ID. Step 2. Why does PowerPoint automatically advance my slides, move by itself, or advance multiple slides? Why does my remote change wlides without me wanting to change them. How can I solve this problem?

If you have a large PowerPoint file with many images (or high res images), multimedia elements (ie embedded movies, music, etc), and/or transitions between slides, PowerPoint may temporarily stop responding to keyboard and mouse events from your Keyspan remote and/or keyboard and mouse events from your computer's keyboard and mouse. In these cases, your button press may be queue up. When PowerPoint is ready to receive events, those queued up button presses will be sent to PowerPoint. This often causes the illusion that your PowerPoint presentation is going to the next/previous slide on its own. To isolate your presentation file as a source of the problem, create a new blank presentation with several screens. Put some plain text on each screen so that you can recognize each individual slide. Next, use your Keyspan remote to move between your slides. If your performance seems to have improved, you should go through your presentation to see what element(s) PowerPoint is having trouble with. If you continue to notice that your presentation moves on its own, please keep reading. The other common cause of this problem is interference from other remotes or other RF/IR sources (RF if you have a Presentation Remote, IR if you have a Digital Media Remote, Remote for iTunes, or Express Remote). To determine if this is the case, take your Keyspan remote and computer to a different location. If you have an IR based remote, move the remote and the computer to a different room is usually sufficient. If you have a RF remote, move the remote and computer away as far as possible (40 feet or more is preferable) to avoid RF interference. Next, connect the Keyspan receiver to your computer and take out the batteries from your Keyspan remote. Setup your presentation. If you see your presentation move by itself, you ,ay still have interference. Lastly, this could be cause by a defective remote/receiver. The dim laser pointer usually means that your Keyspan remote's batteries are weak and need replacing. If you have just purchased your remote, please return it to your point of purchase. Please note that batteries in a Keyspan remote last about one year. You will see the intensity of the laser pointer's light dimish towards the very end of your battery's life.

Windows Asking For Presentation Remote / Easy Presenter Drivers

Anytime you connect ANY USB device to your Windows computer's USB port, Windows will attempt to install a driver and if one is not installed, it will ask you locate the drivers for the device. In the case of the Presentation Remote (PR-US2) or Easy Presenter (PREZ1), the drivers are created by Microsoft. The Presentation Remote (PR-US2) and Easy Presenter (PREZ1) are seen as a USB keyboard and USB mouse. The USB keyboard and mouse drivers are created by Microsoft and, in most cases, these drivers are already installed. However, when Windows asks for these drivers, this means one of the following: - You do not have permission to install USB devices on your computer (because your IT department has locked your computer or you are not logged in as Administrator) - Your Windows computer does not have a complete Windows installation. In this case, use the Windows system CD that came with your computer. If this CD is not available, you will need to contact Microsoft to obtain the generic USB keyboard and USB mice drivers. - You have a copy of Windows that does not properly support modern USB devices. Windows NT 4, Windows 95, Windows 98 (1st Edition) fall under this category.
