* Do the Keyspan Remotes work with the Windows 7 Operating System?

The PR Series (PR-EZ1, PR-US2 and PR-PRO3) use the HID drivers, which are part of the Microsoft OS platform. Because no additional software is required, and the remotes are truly plug-and-play, they are Windows 7 compatible. In addition, the RF Remote (ER-V2) for Windows Vista is also compatible with Windows 7.

Can I "turn off" the Presentaion Remote?

The Presentation Remote will auto-disable certain features to preserve battery power however there is no way to "turn off" the remote control. When you are not pressing any buttons on the remote, the remote will not draw power from the battery. If you have enabled the remote's laser pointer or have activated the 'Media Mode', the remote will turn off these features after several minutes of non-activity. If you are storing or transporting the Presentation Remote, we recommend that you remove the battery from the remote control. If a button is pressed on the remote control and stays pressed, you can easily drain the remote's battery.

Can I connect the Presentation Remote to a PS/2 port on my Windows computer?

The Presenatation Remote is a USB device that is meant to be connected to a USB port. While some USB mice come with a PS/2 to USB adapter (that allow you to connect a USB pointing device to a PS/2 port), the Presentation Remote does not ship with a PS/2 to USB adapter. The Presentation Remote is composite device that contains both a USB mouse and a USB keyboard. Since most PS/2 to USB adapters only support either a USB mouse or a USB keyboard (but not both), most PS/2 to USB adapters cannot be used to connect the Prestation Remote to a PS/2 port on your Windows computer. If you need to connect a Presentation Remote to a non-USB Windows computer, you will need a PCI/PCMCIA USB card or a specific PS/2 to USB adapter that would allow...INCOMPLETE TEXT

Can I use my Keyspan USB device on a USB hub, keyboard, or monitor?

Yes, you can use our USB devices on USB hubs (and USB ports on keyboards and monitors). This is required by the USB specification. However, some third party USB ports (and those in monitors and keyboards) may not follow the USB specification and therefore not provide enough power to our USB devices. If you have a Keyspan USB device and you have problems when you are using it when connected to a USB hub, please connect the Keyspan device to a USB port on your computer. If the problem persists, you have a different problem - please contact Keyspan tech support. If the problem goes away, your USB hub may not sufficiently power your Keyspan device. In this case, please contact the maker of your hub (or monitor or keyboard) for further instructions. If you still need help, please contact Keyspan tech support.

Can I use the Express Remote or Digital Media Remote's 'Mouse' Action to move a icons on my desktop? Can I perform a 'Click and Drag' action like I would on mouse?

At this time, only the Keyspan Presentation Remote (pn PR-US2) can perform a 'Click and Drag' action (see your Presentation Remote QuickStart for info). This is supported directly in the PR-US2 hardware and does not require any software. The Express Remote and Digital Media Remotes can be configured to perform a single or double left click (Mac users: standard click on a single button mouse) or a single or double right click (Mac users: control click or right click with a USB mouse). Currently, 'Click and Drag' is not a programmable option.

Can I use the Keyspan Presentation Remote as a flash drive/thumb drive to store my files?

The Keyspan Presenation Remote allows wireless control of your PowerPoint and Keynote presentation. The receiver is not a flash/thumb drive.

Can I use the Presentation Remote on pre-Windows 98 Second Edition computers (ie Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98)?

Windows 98 Second Edition (aka Windows 98 SE) and newer operating systems (ie Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, etc) have infrastructure and drivers to enable use of the Keyspan Presentation Remote. These drivers are made by Microsoft and are not available as a separate download. Pre-Windows 98 SE (ie Window 98 [first edition], Windows NT, Windows 95) computers do not have the necessary support for the Presentation Remote. Because of this, Microsoft does not provide any driver to enable the use of the Presentation Remote on these older operating systems.

Corel Presentations X3 compatibility

Keyspan's Presenation Remotes have been tested to work Corel Presentations X3. By default. Corel Presentations X3 uses the same commands as PowerPoint to navigate between slides once you are in Slide Show mode. Because of this, your can use the next/previous slide buttons on our remotes to move between slides. Unlike PowerPoint, Corel Presentations X3 does not use F5 to start Slide Show mode. If your Keyspan remote has an F5 key and you want to use that button to start a Corel Presentations Slide Show, you need to access Corel Presentations' settings to remap F5 keyboard shortcut to Start Slide Show (Corel Presentations online help shows how to map keyboard shortcuts). Difference between the Keyspan Remotes URM-15A, URM-15T, and URM-17A

Do Keyspan USB Devices Use IRQ (interrupt request line) addresses?

USB host devices, like USB PCI cards and the USB ports on your computers, are often assigned IRQs. However, by design, all USB devices, not just devices made by Keyspan, do not use IRQ in any way.

Does Keyspan have any Windows NT compatible products? Why doesn't the Keyspan File Transfer Cable load/install on Windows NT?

Most Keyspan products require at least Windows 98 or better. For specific information about a certain product's minimum system requirements, please see that product's documentation and our web page on Keyspan's website. Windows NT is often not supported due to the stability of USB drivers on Windows NT. Does the Express Remote or Digital Media Remote have a laser pointer?

The Presentation Remote (http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/presentationremote/) comes with a builtin laser pointer. The Presentation Remote is specifically designed for controlling presentation software such as Power Point and Keynote. The Keyspan Easy Presenter also has a laser pointer (http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/prez1/). The Express Remote (http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/urm17a/) does not include a laser pointer. This product is designed for controlling iTunes or any multimedia application. The Express Remote can also be connected to an Apple AirPort Express to control your iTunes music remotely.

To change your remote's ID, the receiver must be connected to a usb port. Press the Mode Button (white) and Composite Switch (black) together until the Mode button flashes green rapidly. Then using a paperclip, press the ID button on the receiver. To get the RF receiver to learn the new ID, press the Composite Switch.

To TURN ON the laser pointer, simultaneously hold the LASER POINTER button (orange/blue) and the MODE button (translucent white) for 4 seconds or until the MODE button flashes red. To TURN OFF the laser pointer, repeat this step. Please note that the laser pointer will flash red every 3 seconds to let you know that the laser pointer is turned on. This is helpful when trying to conserve battery power. The laser pointer will turn itself off after 10 minutes of non-use. To uninstall the beta software for the Keyspan Presentation Remote, please do the following: 1. Disconnect the Keyspan receiver from your USB port. 2. Mac Users: Open the KeyspanDMR application. In the Keyspan Remote Software, select the UNINSTALL command from the SETTINGS menu (in the menu bar). This will remove all Keyspan related files. Next, close the KeyspanDMR application and move it to the trash. Reboot. When your Mac boots up again, connect the Keyspan receiver to your computer. 2. Windows Users: Open the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS control panel. REMOVE any Keyspan entries in the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS control panel. This will remove all Keyspan related files. Next, reboot. When your PC boots up again, connect the Keyspan receiver to your computer. 3. Uninstall complete.

How far can I be from the my computer when using the Presentation Remote?

The Presentation Remote works up to 40 feet -- even through walls and furniture. Please note: Distance may be affected by battery levels. When the Presentation Remote battery gets very low (usually after about one year of usage), distance will be affected. To fix this, replace the battery.

How long does the battery last in the Presentation Remote?

Under normal use, the Presentation Remote's battery (battery CR2450) should last approximately one year. Replacement batteries can be purchased at locations like Radioshack (in the US) and at most resellers where hearing aid and watch batteries are sold. To help ensure that you receive the maximum battery life, it is recommended that you remove the battery from your Presentation Remote when it is not in use. Your battery will drain over the course of a few hours if the battery is a) inside your remote AND b) something is continually pressing one of your remote's buttons (ie if the remote is in a tight computer bag, objects are pressing against the face of the remote, etc.). IMPORTANT NOTE: Battery life will vary depending on usage. Keyspan's warranty service does not cover battery replacement. If your battery did not work when you initially purchased the Keyspan Presentation Remote, please return the remote to your reseller for a replacement.

How many IDs does the Keyspan Presentation Remote have?

The Keyspan Presentation Remote has 64 unique IDs. These IDs are selected randomly when you reset the Presentation Remote control (by pressing the Composite Switch and Mode button simultaneously). Once you have set the new ID on the remote control, you need to tell the receiver and remote control to use the same ID. To do this, connect the receiver to your computer's USB port and hit the reset button with a paper clip (via the small hole on top of the receiver). This tells the receiver to listen for sync message from your remote control. Next, on your remote control, press IN on the composite switch. This will send the sync message to receiver and you will be able to immediately use the Presentation Remote with the new ID. Note: the default ID is ID '0' (zero). All new Presentation Remote controls and receivers are set to ID '0' (zero).

I am running Win 98 second edition. When I plug in the Keyspan Presentation Remote receiver, "Found New Hardware" dialog opens and is trying to install the driver. What should I do? Is it possible to install the HID items on my Win 98 second edition m

Keyspan Presentation Remote uses Microsoft Windows HID (Human Interface Devices) driver. Human Interface Device drivers are included since Windows 98 Second Edition operating system or later. (i.e. Windows 98 SE/Windows ME/Windows 2000/XP) If USB HID driver hasn’t already been installed, Windows will prompt you for "Found New Hardware" as soon as you connect the USB receiver. When the Found New Hardware wizard appears, direct Windows to search for the driver on your hard drive. If the installation is not successful (i.e. Driver not found), you’ll need to insert your Windows 98 SE/ME/2000/XP CD in your CD-ROM to provide the appropriate USB HID driver. If you have question on how to install USB HID driver from Windows installation CD, please contact Microsoft tech support.

I downloaded Rhapsody software and installed Keyspan Digital Media Remote Software V2.2 in Windows 2000/XP. I added Rhapsody application in the Keyspan Remote Software but the active Rhapsody application doesn't show in "Currently Mapping to Application"

Keyspan is aware of this problem in the Keyspan Remote Software version 2.2 with Rhapsody software version 2.1 (build 0.243). We are currently looking into this problem. When we have more details or a solution to this problem, we will post information on this FAQ page.

Is My Keyspan device compatible with Bootcamp (Windows booted on Intel Mac)? Does Keyspan support Apple's Bootcamp?

Apple's software that lets you install Windows XP on your Intel based Mac, allows your Mac hardware to boot directly into Windows. This makes your Mac hardware into a 'real Windows computer'. Because of your Mac is running Windows directly, your Mac is identical to any other Windows PC. This gives you the same functionality, performance, and reliability of USB/Serial/Parallel/etc that you would find on a 'real Windows computer' (as opposed to Windows running in an emulator ie VirtualPC/Parallels). At this point, any Keyspan device that has Windows drivers is compatible with Bootcamp. Please note that certain Keyspan products are Mac only like the USA-28X (Windows never had Din8 connectors therefore most Windows apps don't know how to communicate with Din8 ports). In short, if your Mac supports Bootcamp and you have Keyspan product that shipped with Windows drivers, this will work and it is 100% supported by Keyspan. ADDITIONAL NOTE: Bootcamp, as of July 2006, is beta software. This information may change but Keyspan does not expect it to. However, this will only be determine when Apple releases Bootcamp as a non-beta software.

Is the Presentation Remote compatible with Apple's Keynote software?

The Presentation Remote is compatible with Apple's Keynote software. To advance or move back the slides in your presentation, use the composite switch on the side of the remote. This switch mimics the line up/down actions of the keyboard.

'Keyboard identification' window appears when Keyspan receiver is connected Mac OS X 10.4

Mac OS X 10.4 includes a new feature that helps you setup USB keyboards on your computer. You will get the 'Keyboard identification' window anytime you connect a new USB keyboard that your Mac OS X 10.4 computer has not seen before. This window asks to type certain letters on the connected keyboard. The Keyspan Presentation Remote (PR-US2, PR-EU2, TSAM-001) and the Keyspan Easy Presenter are seen by your computer as a keyboard (and mouse in the case of the Presentation Remote). This is what allows you to use these remotes without installing any software. If you get this message, please close the 'Keyboard identification' window. Mac OS X will remember that you closed this window and it will not popup again. Your remote will work once you close this window. If your remote does not work, please sync/pair your remote to receiver again.

Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Compatibility

Note: This FAQ will be updating frequently during the 60 days after Mac OS X 10.5's release. Keyspan has tested our products under prerelease versions of 10.5. The following information is based on this testing and should apply to the public release of 10.5. We will be testing the public version of 10.5 after it has been released on Oct 26, 2007. Our results will be updated here. Please note that many of our products are used by other applications (ie Palm software uses our serial ports to communicate with Palm handhelds, Skype software and our VoIP phone, GPS software with GPS hardware connected via a Keyspan adapter). Please make sure that your 3rd party software (ie Palm software, GPS software, etc) is 10.5 compatible. USB to Serial Adapters (any USA-xxx model adapter, any UPR-xxx port replicator) Software version 2.4 or later - COMPATIBLE USB/Print Server (US4A, PS4A, U2S2A) COMPATIBLE Update to software version 2.1b4. An uninstaller is also available (v2.1b3). This version has been posted on our downloads page. Software version 2.0.1 or earlier - NOT COMPATIBLE. We will be releasing an update shortly to address 10.5 issues. Do not install v2.0.1 or earlier on 10.5. IR Based Remotes (any UIA-xxx receiver and REM-xxx remote) Software version 2.4b4 or later - COMPATIBLE. Please note that Express Remotes connected to Airport Express units don't require software. My Presentation Remote is not working. How do I troubleshoot the Presentation Remote?

Step 1 - Check the remote/battery - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The first thing to do is to check the battery on the Presentation Remote. Press the MODE button. Did it a green light turn on? If no, press it again. If it still doesn't turn on, replace the battery. If yes, the battery is fine. Press the MODE button again to turn off the green light. Go to Step 2. Step 2 - Check the receiver - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Connect the receiver to your computer. Then... This tells the receiver to listen for sync message from your remote control. Next, on your remote control, press IN on the composite switch [press the button and release]. This will send the sync message to receiver and you will be able to immediately use the Presentation Remote with the new ID. Try controlling the mouse with your Presentation Remote. !!! IMPORTANT!!! IMPORTANT!!! IMPORTANT!!! This step must be performed quickly. You should try this several times to ensure that the receiver gets the re-sync command immediately after you hit the reset button on the receiver. Also, make sure that you really are press the reset button on the receiver. You should feel a button being pressed via the reset hole on the receiver. This is the number one issue with this remote. In most cases, the time between hitting the reset button on the Keyspan USB receiver and pressing IN on the composite switch is too long. You should try to do these two things with 1 second. The second most common thing is that the reset button is not press. You should 'feel' a button being pressed. Pressing the reset button several times will not hurt anything. !!! IMPORTANT!!! IMPORTANT!!! IMPORTANT!!! If you are unable to control your mouse with the Presentation Remote, contact Keyspan. If you are able to control your mouse with the Presentation Remote, your remote is ready for use. Try controlling the mouse with your Presentation Remote. Note: This step must be performed quickly. PowerBook/MacBook Trackpad Doesn't Work When My Keyspan Remote Is Connected

If your PowerBook's trackpad stops working when you connect your Keyspan Remote's RF receiver (Easy Presenter or Presentation Remote), you probably have the "IGNORE TRACKPAD WHEN MOUSE IS PRESENT" option enabled. This happens because your Keyspan RF receiver is seen by your computer as both a keyboard AND a mouse. Since a 'mouse is present', your trackpad will be disabled. This only happens when the "IGNORE TRACKPAD WHEN MOUSE IS PRESENT" option is enabled. You should also experience when connecting any USB mouse to your computer. To disable "IGNORE TRACKPAD WHEN MOUSE IS PRESENT" on Mac OS X, do the following: 1. Go to the APPLE menu (in the menu bar) and select SYSTEM PREFERENCES. This will open a SYSTEM PREFERENCES window. 2. Select the KEYBOARD & MOUSE icon. This will show you the KEYBOARD & MOUSE window. 3. In the KEYBOARD & MOUSE window, click the TRACKPAD tab. 4. Microsoft PowerPoint 2003's Presenter View mode uses the following keystrokes: Space or Right Arrow - Advance to the next animation/slide Backspace or Left Arrow - Return to previous animation/slide Page Up - Scrolls Speaker's notes up Page Down - Scroll Speaker's notes down Note: This issue only affects users that a) use PowerPoint 2003 AND b) use PowerPoint 2003's Presenters View option. If you do not use Presenter View, this will not affect you. If you press Up or Down arrow keys on your Keyboard when you are using Presenter View mode, slides will keep forwarding in Microsoft PowerPoint 2003. Since Keyspan Easy Presenter version B is preprogramed to send out Up (backward button) or Down (Forward button) keystroke to your computer, thus slides would keep forwarding even you press the backward button on the remote. By default, all Presentation Remote receivers and remote controls are configured to use the same ID (ID number: zero). Therefore, if you take two new Presentation Remotes out of their box and plug them into 2 separate computers, either remote will control both computers simultaneously. This is due to the fact that both remotes are set to use 'ID zero' and the receiver are set to listen for any remote using 'ID zero'. In some cases, you may want to have this behavior (ie have 2 remotes controlling one computer, have 1 remote controlling multiple computers, etc). If you do not want this case, you will need to change the remote and receiver's ID to use/listen another ID. To do this, please do the following: 1. Connect your receiver to your USB port. 2. Change the remote's ID by simultaneously pressing in on the Composite Switch (black 'wheel' on side of remote) and the Mode button (white button at the bottom of remote) until the Mode button flashes green. You may have to hold down both buttons for up to 4 seconds. 3. Quickly insert a paper clip, or similar object, into the reset button in the receiver. When you are running Windows 2000/XP, Windows Media Player is the default media player in Windows. When you press the laser button in Media Mode, it will open whatever default player in Windows. (i.e. Windows Media Player). Now, when you install the third party media player (i.e. Real Player, iTunes etc), it may ask you to configure itself as default player for all media files in Windows. If you select this player as default media player in Windows, then the next time when you press laser button in Keyspan Remote, it will launch this player instead of Windows Media Player. To make the Windows Media Player as the default player in Windows, you may try the following and see if that helps or read the documentation of Windows Media Player on how to do this. 1. Certain versions of iTunes do not support Fast Forward/Rewind via a keystoke action. To enable fast forward/rewind, turn on the 'iTunes Mode' checkbox in the Keyspan Remote Software. The Keyspan Remote Software's 'iTunes Mode' does not use keystrokes to control iTunes, instead it sends direct commands to iTunes. Note: When 'iTunes Mode' is enabled, the Keyspan Remote Software will ONLY CONTROL ITUNES (whether it's running in the forground or hidden in the background). You will not be able to control other applications when 'iTunes Mode' is enabled.

Where can I buy the Presentation Remote battery (CR2450)? Where can I get battery's for this Keyspan Part #: PR-US2?

The Presentation Remote's battery (CR2450) can be purchased from many resellers that sell hearing aid batteries. It can also be order via the internet from many battery resellers. In the US, you can find CR2450 batteries at RadioShack (RadioShack part number: 23-189). The cost of the battery ranges from $2 to $6 (USD) depending on your reseller.

In some cases, the Windows Hardware Wizard will appear and disappear quickly making it hard to determine if your Presentation Remote was detected. It possible that it appeared and disappeared without your noticing. In these cases, Windows automatically found and installed your Presentation Remote hardware and software. To determine if this has happened, please check your Device Manager (found in the 'System' Control Panel). The Keyspan Presentation Remote is detected as a 'HID compliant device' and will be listed under the 'Mice' and 'Keyboard' heading. If you see the 'HID' device, your Presentation Remote hardware was found and has been installed on Windows. If you do not see, the HID device, or if you see the HID device and still can't control your mouse cursor using your Keyspan Presentation Remote, please contact Keyspan for further support. Why does PowerPoint automatically advance my slides, move by itself, or advance multiple slides? Why does my remote change wlides without me wanting to change them. How can I solve this problem?

If you have a large PowerPoint file with many images (or high res images), multimedia elements (ie embedded movies, music, etc), and/or transitions between slides, PowerPoint may temporarily stop responding to keyboard and mouse events from your Keyspan remote and/or keyboard and mouse events from your computer's keyboard and mouse. In these cases, your button press may be queue up. When PowerPoint is ready to receive events, those queued up button presses will be sent to PowerPoint. This often causes the illusion that your PowerPoint presentation is going to the next/previous slide on its own. To isolate your presentation file as a source of the problem, create a new blank presentation with several screens. Put some plain text on each screen so that you can recognize each individual slide. Next, use your Keyspan remote to move between your slides. If your performance seems to have improved, you should go through your presentation to see what element(s) PowerPoint is having trouble with. If you continue to notice that your presentation moves on its own, please keep reading. The other common cause of this problem is interference from other remotes or other RF/IR sources (RF if you have a Presentation Remote, IR if you have a Digital Media Remote, Remote for iTunes, or Express Remote). To determine if this is the case, take your Keyspan remote and computer to a different location. If you have an IR based remote, move the remote and the computer to a different room is usually sufficient. If you have a RF remote, move the remote and computer away as far as possible (40 feet or more is preferable) to avoid RF interference. Next, connect the Keyspan receiver to your computer and take out the batteries from your Keyspan remote. Setup your presentation. If you see your presentation move by itself, you ,ay still have interference. Lastly, this could be cause by a defective remote/receiver. Why doesn't 'previous slide' work in PowerPoint when I use the right mouse button on the Presentation Remote? I cannot go back one slide, I can only go forward.

By default, the PowerPoint maps the right mouse click button to open a submenu in PowerPoint. This is normal. Keyspan recommends that you use the 'Composite Switch' on the side of the remote for previous slide and next slide. If you prefer to use the mouse buttons for previous and next slide, you will have to tell PowerPoint to not present a submenu when you right click. To do this: 1. In PowerPoint, go to the TOOLS menu. 2. In the TOOLS menu, select OPTIONS. This will open the OPTIONS window. 3. In the OPTIONS window, click the VIEW tab. In the VIEW tab, turn off 'Popup menu on right button click/Show menu on right mouse click' 4. Click OK to save your changes NOTE: This change only affects PowerPoint on your computer. If you use a different computer for PowerPoint presentations, please make sure to change this setting on that computer as well.

The dim laser pointer usually means that your Keyspan remote's batteries are weak and need replacing. If you have just purchased your remote, please return it to your point of purchase. Please note that batteries in a Keyspan remote last about one year. You will see the intensity of the laser pointer's light dimish towards the very end of your battery's life.

Windows Asking For Presentation Remote / Easy Presenter Drivers

Anytime you connect ANY USB device to your Windows computer's USB port, Windows will attempt to install a driver and if one is not installed, it will ask you locate the drivers for the device. In the case of the Presentation Remote (PR-US2) or Easy Presenter (PREZ1), the drivers are created by Microsoft. The Presentation Remote (PR-US2) and Easy Presenter (PREZ1) are seen as a USB keyboard and USB mouse. The USB keyboard and mouse drivers are created by Microsoft and, in most cases, these drivers are already installed. However, when Windows asks for these drivers, this means one of the following: - You do not have permission to install USB devices on your computer (because your IT department has locked your computer or you are not logged in as Administrator) - Your Windows computer does not have a complete Windows installation. In this case, use the Windows system CD that came with your computer. If this CD is not available, you will need to contact Microsoft to obtain the generic USB keyboard and USB mice drivers. - You have a copy of Windows that does not properly support modern USB devices. Windows NT 4, Windows 95, Windows 98 (1st Edition) fall under this category.
