Low profile and yet six outlets Used this in a customers home because I needed a low profile unit that would fit behind a cabinet and have enough outlets with surge suppression. Also love the swivel feature. April 2, 2013
This is a Great Product...But you can ony find it on Line and That was a challange.. What a Super 6 way outlet....Only way it could get better is to have a couple USB outlets on it...This is a Great Product...But you can only find it online...and Trip Lite web site is very hard to navagate in..but when you find something like this product, you buy a several, I bough tthem through Amazon.... Can I break the rod off? Or will that affect the socket in some undesired way?

I cut the black rod off with a set of side cutters...Just don't overload the 6 way...thats whats is there for...Be safe....I cut it off ...because you still can't get to the bottom duplex anyway because it is covered up...so it's all good...I love these 6 way outlets...there the best...Just be safe, don't try to plugin 6 hairdryers at once...

Answer: 
Thank you for your inquiry. That black peg on the back is used to stabilize the AVSWIV6 by inserting it into the unused ground slot of a duplexed outlet. Cutting it off will not affect the the socket.
