- Can Tripp Lite build me a custom UPS solution?
- Possibly, this is dependent on quantity, changes needed to stock products and your time line. Please contact your Tripp Lite sales representative, call (773) 869-1091 or email saleshelp@tripplite.com with your requirements.
- Who should be the first point of contact for product returns, the reseller or Tripp Lite?
- Tripp Lite. Anywhere from 40% to 60% of customer product problems can be corrected by simply contacting our Technical Support Department at (773) 869-1234 to discuss the problem with a technical support representative. Your customer should be with the product at the time of the call so that the representative can obtain key information about the product to facilitate solving the problem or replacing the product.
- A customer received a product missing a part. Who should fulfill the missing part request?
- The customer should contact our Technical Support Department at (773) 869-1234 for missing part requests.
- I know that Tripp Lite manufactures power supplies, but are these the ones that go into computers and servers?
- No. Tripp Lite manufactures stand-alone DC power supplies that are designed for commercial/land-mobile, ham and CB radios, test bench supplies, base stations, tape players and amplifiers. They efficiently convert 120 volts AC into 13.8 volts DC (+/-0.5V) and have nothing to do with smaller, internal power supplies designed for computers and servers.
- Do Tripp Lite KVM Switches only work with Tripp Lite KVM Cable Kits?
- Yes. Tripp Lite requires the use of our KVM Cable Kits with all KVM Switches. Some models include KVM Cable Kits and others do not.
- What is the turnaround time on custom fiber cables?
- Tripp Lite provides custom fiber cables available within 2 to 5 business days.
- What should generally be plugged into a UPS?
- In general, computer hardware that is critical to maintaining productivity during a power failure should get top priority (ie: CPUs, servers, security systems, telecom systems, routers, hubs and monitors). Select UPS systems feature surge-only outlets (typically lower VA models for personal computers) that are designed to protect heavy-draw devices that do not require battery backup (ie: laser printers).
- What are Tripp Lite's UPS connection and equipment connection warnings?
- Tripp Lite recommends connecting a UPS system directly to a properly grounded AC power outlet. Do not plug the UPS into itself; this will damage the UPS. Do not modify the UPS plug, and do not use an adapter that would eliminate the ground connection. Do not use extension cords to connect the UPS to an AC outlet. The warranty will be void if anything other than a Tripp Lite surge suppressors is used to connect the UPS to an outlet. If the UPS receives power from a motor-powered AC generator, the generator must provide clean, filtered, computer-grade output. Do not use Tripp Lite UPS Systems for life-support applications in which a malfunction or failure of a Tripp Lite UPS System could cause failure or significantly alter the performance of a life-support device. Do not connect surge suppressors or extension cords to the output of the UPS. This may damage the UPS and will void the surge suppressor and UPS warranties.

- What is the main cause of power problems in the U.S.?
- Despite advances in technology, power grids across the country are struggling to supply reliable power to homes and businesses. The increasing occurrence of large natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, along with the growing demand for electricity, have put a significant strain on power grids and an increase in damaging power problems. If your home office or business has ever been disrupted by a power problem, it's not surprising. IBM estimates that 120 power problems hit the typical computer in a month–that works out to four per day! As a result, computer systems and electronics are under siege by more frequent blackouts, brownouts, surges and other power anomalies. Thanks to the aging of the nation's power-producing infrastructure, these power problems are likely to become more and more common in the years ahead.
- What is the loss, in terms of dollars, to U.S. businesses each year due to power problems?
- The cost to businesses caused by power disturbances is significant. Several studies have been published blaming power problems for billions of dollars in lost business revenue. A study by the Electric Power Research Institute found that U.S. businesses lose $50 billion per year to power outages, resulting in lost revenues and lower profits.
