Works great but with small annoyances

By Matt (IT for USPS)

Comments about Tripp Lite 4-Port Desktop KVM Switch (USB):

The product works as advertised. No problems. The annoyance I have is that I work in an environment where I frequently have to boot from the network using F12. This is done during the bios/post startup. The Tripp-Lite product, however, puts a black screen mask over startup so you don't see anything until the Windows splash screen. You just have to hope that any manipulation you do while in startup is correct because you can't see it.

DONT BUY

By 86themachine

Comments about Tripp Lite 4-Port Desktop KVM Switch (USB):

Don't buy this unit. It has given me nothing but headaches. Keyboard does not work in USB keyboard port.
I have a Rosewill keyboard RK9100xB and it will not work with this KVM unless plugged into the mouse console port. When I plug the mouse in the keyboard port the mouse is very slow and does not respond to driver changes to speed up the tracking.
The power cable on this KVM does not fit properly into the receptacle and is constantly shutting off. I will be sending this product to trash very soon but before I do I will beat it with a hammer and that will be the only satisfaction this piece of junk has given me.

Great KVM

By MarkC

from Undisclosed

Comments about Tripp Lite 4-Port Desktop KVM Switch (USB):

The Short Story

If you want a great 4 port KVM buy this as it is small and built with very solid construction. The plus is if you want it to work with a wireless keyboard and mouse order the IOGEAR Wireless and Keyboard Mouse Combo (model GKM552R).

The Long Story

I had an IOGEAR KVM 4 port switch which I really liked as it had physical switches for computer selection and scanning (hotkeys are a pain to remember) and it just worked great. The bonus was that it worked with my HP Elite wireless keyboard and mouse perfectly and from what I know now was just luck as wireless keyboards and mice are not a great mix with a KVM. Well eventually the mouse did not work and later the keyboard keys became flakey and I so I thought no problem I will update the keyboard and mouse with a new HP Elite II keyboard and mouse. Well that would not work with the KVM and so through testing I realized that it was the IOGEAR KVM that was failing but after many years of faithful service no big deal.

So I ordered the Tripp Lite B006-VU4-R 4-Port Desktop KVM Switch (USB) and I liked it very much sans the lack of physical scan button. The bad news was that when I tried to use the HP Elite II keyboard and mouse it would not recognize it no matter how much I tried. I had to use the old Elite Keyboard and a Microsoft Arc mouse through a separate USB dongle but that had the limitation of it would literally reload make that the noise as though I had unplugged the USB from the device I was switching from (annoying).

Finally let me tell you the computers connected to the KVM. They are a Dell Desktop OptiPlex 980, a Mac Mini 2007 (yes old and in process of replacing), and a docked Lenovo ThinkPad T430s. All are working flawlessly as I write this. If there is any update to my experience I will update this review.

Hope this helps!

I searched for a KVM to meet my needs and I can say without qualification that this may be the best switch on the market at its price point. Works as advertised and I have had no problems.

I have two towers and one laptop connected via this

Comments about Tripp Lite 4-Port Desktop KVM Switch (USB):

I've had my 4-Port KVM Switch for about 1.5 years now and love it. The front controls enable me to conveniently switch systems, and the indicator lights show which one is "active". Having the keyboard and mouse USB ports on the front of the unit is nice. I have several other Tripp Lite products and have had great experiences with them all.

Great little switch

Comments about Tripp Lite 4-Port Desktop KVM Switch (USB):

I got this switch to replace another brand older PS2 KVM. It work well, but some of the machines stopped recognizing the mouse or keyboard through the switch.
Worked great with my favorite mouse and keyboard, seems pretty solid.

Built like a tank; flawless switching

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Tripp Lite 4-Port Desktop KVM Switch (USB):

While this KVM occupies the same price range as other inexpensive ones (under $100), it's not the usual lightweight plastic squid-looking contraption with wires streaming out in every direction. Instead, the Tripp Lite looks like a tiny 8-by-3-by 2-inch audio component: all-metal construction, tactile switches, LED status lights, external AC power supply.

The best part may be that it doesn't come with any connection cables attached or included. Why bother sticking those cables in the box; the chance that they're exactly the right length is small. And, since cables aren't permanently attached, you only install the cables you need, meaning you have no giant pile of wires pulling the KVM off the desk. (Not that this heavy little box is going anywhere.)

I have three PCs and a Mac. I needed this only for the mouse/keyboard switching, as my monitor has all the necessary video inputs (and at 2560 x 1440, it's higher-res than most under-$100 KVMs, including the Tripp Lite, can handle). The Tripp Lite is a perfect keyboard/mouse switcher. It looks at home on the desk, the heavy construction means you can mash buttons without moving the box around, and the buttons have a reassuring click feel. It features hotkey switching, but pushing the chassis buttons is easier.

Built like a tank, flawless bulletproof switching (which is why you buy these things), and perfect for the job.

Great for Servers

By jaykay

from Undisclosed

Comments about Tripp Lite 4-Port Desktop KVM Switch (USB):

I got tired of using cheap KVM switches with our servers. The servers would intermittently stop recognizing the other brands of switches and require a reboot of the servers. NOT a nice thing with production servers. The TrippLite KVM has been in service for months and never has a problem. Thank you TrippLite.

Great unit; should include cables

By videodavey

Comments about Tripp Lite 4-Port Desktop KVM Switch (USB):

This switch replaced one from another manufacturer that would not work. Our rep from local electronics supply co. came out with this unit while I was out. Got back and was surprised it doesn't come with cables but cost $40+ more than the other one. But the important thing is IT WORKS GREAT.
