The connections are horizontal so it takes less height in the cabinet.

It turns off my pre-amp, 2 amps , CD, TV, BD, while not in use.

And the AMP meter is perfect to keep the volume to a neighbor friendly level. YES! Gain is different from one recording to another hence volume on preamp is not a good indication on watts of sound. But the AMPS are. Below 1.3 amps, I know my upstair neighbor does not complain. I LOVE IT!

My old surge protector decided to go belly up. I purchased the AV10IRG and really appreciated the compatibility with my other remotes. However, my satellite DVR began randomly shutting down to reboot. My satellite provider advised this is a common problem with surge protectors. It doesn't happen very often, but when a show is recording it becomes a nuisance. Interestingly, it never happened previously with my old surge protector. Just the same, if it protects my equipment I will learn to live with it.

This surge protector has many quality features that I was looking for, energy savings, and looks great sitting in my entertainment theater area. I like the fact that this unit has a very high joule rating, meaning this unit should last a very long time. You can protect your modem and your tv by running these lines into the modem first, (input), then output to these items. The 8 foot swivel cord gives plenty of room for proper placement. It is kind of fun to watch the amperage indicator increase as the volume increases from your theater amplifier. The amperage indicator after powering off all theater equipment, then registering zero, gives you a thumbs up when everything is shut off. I recommended this unit to my friend, who also purchased one.

Unfortunately we're in a server draught, so there hasn't been but one storm in 14 months to test out the surge protection of this unit. I selected it because of the higher joule rating to protect from lightning strikes. I use it to my $$$$ stereo system. So far, so good.

This surge protector has me insured many different ways, including a $250,000 Lifetime Warranty, power usage indication, ground support, an eight foot swivel cord and eco-outlets! What more could an individual ask for, right? Not to mention the ~6,500 Joule rating! This product is definitely worth a try, and a "keep"!

A surge protector will protect your electronics by acting as an “electrical sponge” by clamping down on spikes, “soaking them up” and converting the excess energy into heat, thus preventing the spikes from passing through the surge protector into the sensitive electronic devices and damaging them. As with any “sponge” a surge protector has a limited absorption capacity. Once that capacity is reached, the unit is no longer able to protect and must be replaced.
Select Tripp Lite Audio/Video surge protectors are equipped with IR outlets. These outlets enable you to power a specific device on or off without shutting down any other equipment. This can be done manually (via designated buttons on the front faceplate) or through the remote control that is included.

An IR outlet may not be providing power for several reasons:

    -The unit is connected to an AC source that is not passing power.
    -The unit has taken a surge hit, causing the internal components, as designed, to absorb the surge and protect the connected equipment.
    -The outlet may be faulty.

Follow these steps in an attempt to identify the problem:
1. Shut down and remove all devices that are connected to the surge protector.
2. Turn off the surge protector and unplug it from the AC source.
3. Check to make sure that the circuit breaker on the unit is reset by pressing the corresponding button at the rear of the unit.
4. Plug the surge protector into an AC outlet that provides computer-grade power.
5. Make sure the Power On LED associated with the outlet in question is lit. If the Power On LED is lit, then proceed to step 7. If not, press the SELECT button on the front faceplate of the surge protector one time. Proceed to the next step.
6. The IR 1 LED should now be flashing. Press the Select button until the IR # flashing is the IR # associated with the outlet in question. Press the Enter button on the front of the unit.
7. Plug a small device into the IR outlet in question at the rear of the unit. Turn on the device and make sure that it is working properly.

If you have followed these steps and the IR outlet is still not passing power, the unit requires replacement.
Some Tripp Lite surge protectors offer RJ45 line surge protection for various devices. However, these connectors are only compatible with Ethernet-based signals. When used properly, these ports can help prevent a power surge from damaging any equipment connected to them. 

There are three common reasons why these ports may not be operating properly:

    -The RJ45 cables are not connected to the proper ports on the unit.
    -The signal being used is not Ethernet-based.
    -A surge occurred and damaged the RJ45 protection ports of the surge protector.

Please follow these instructions to determine if the RJ45 ports are functioning properly:
1. Remove the device that is plugged into the RJ45 ports on the unit.
2. Check that the device is working properly by plugging it directly into your signal source and verifying that it is operating correctly. If the device is not working, contact the manufacturer of that product for further troubleshooting assistance. If it is working, proceed to the next step.
3. Install a known working RJ45 cable from the signal source to the RJ45 port labeled IN on the unit.
4. Plug a known working RJ45 cable from the device you wish to protect into the RJ45 port labeled OUT on the unit.
5. Test to make sure that the device is working properly.

If the RJ45 ports are still not passing a signal to the connected device, the unit requires replacement.
Some Tripp Lite Audio/Video surge protectors use a remote control to provide a convenient method of controlling power to specific outlets. This feature offers the flexibility of powering various devices on and off as needed. A remote is especially useful for power shedding, which is powering devices on/off in a certain sequence.

There are several reasons why your remote may not operate properly:

    -The IR (infrared) sensor on the front of the unit is blocked.
    -The remote may have a low or dead battery.
    -The remote is not programmed correctly.


Follow these steps in an attempt to identify the problem:
1. Check that the IR sensor on the front of the surge protector is clear of any obstructions. Wipe down the front of the sensor with a damp cloth to allow for better communication.
2. Replace the battery inside the remote.
3. Press and hold the Enter button located on the front panel of the surge protector for at least 5 seconds (the Outlet Select LEDs will flash rapidly to indicate that you have done this correctly). The surge protector is now in Learning Mode. (Note: You will have 15 seconds to complete the next step. Otherwise, the surge protector will revert back to Normal Mode, and you will need to start back at step 2.)
4. Point the remote at the IR sensor located on the front panel. Momentarily press any of the number buttons on the remote (1, 2, 3 or 4), and then press the remote’s Enter button.
5. If the procedure is successful, the surge protector's Outlet Select LEDs will flash rapidly for a moment. The remote is now reprogrammed and ready for use.

If you have followed these steps and the remote is still not operating properly, the unit requires replacement.
Select Tripp Lite Audio/Video surge protectors have a Current Usage LED. This feature allows a user to monitor the amount of power being used by connected devices and helps to prevent overloads. The Current Usage LED can be one of three colors:

    -Green – indicates that there is a minimal load attached
    -Yellow – indicates a warning that the attached load is nearing maximum capacity
    -Red – indicates that the maximum capacity has been reached and some of the attached devices need to be shut down and/or removed

There are several reasons why this LED may be red:

    -The amount of power being used by all the connected equipment is high and some devices need to be shut down.
    -Your unit has taken a surge hit causing the internal components, as designed, to absorb the surge and protect the connected equipment.
    -The LED may be faulty.


Follow these steps to identify the problem:
1. Shut down all the equipment connected to the surge protector.
2. Turn off the unit and unplug it from the AC power source.
3. Unplug all the devices that are connected to the surge protector.
4. Plug the surge protector into a computer-grade AC source and turn on the unit.
5. Confirm the Current Usage LED does not illuminate (when devices are not connected to the surge protector).

If the Current Usage LED is lit with no devices connected to the surge protector, then the unit requires replacement.
