Overview

Tripp Lite's IBAR12 offers network-grade surge and noise suppression in a versatile all-metal multi-mount cabinet. Detachable mounting flanges are configurable for rack mount, wall mount and under-counter installation. Uses only 1 rack space (1U) when installed in any 19 inch EIA standard rack. Features network grade AC surge suppression with EMI/RFI noise filtering. Outlets are arranged in exclusive isolated filter banks to limit noise interaction among connected items. Includes 12 outlets (2 front/10 rear), 15 ft AC power cord and guarded power switch to reduce the risk of accidental shutoff. $25,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance (U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico only) coverage.

We have used these units for about ten years in a Critical Data Center.
I checked with the engineering staff and we cannot remember a single failure of these units.

A surge protector will protect your electronics by acting as an “electrical sponge” by clamping down on spikes, “soaking them up” and converting the excess energy into heat, thus preventing the spikes from passing through the surge protector into the sensitive electronic devices and damaging them. As with any “sponge” a surge protector has a limited absorption capacity. Once that capacity is reached, the unit is no longer able to protect and must be replaced.
All outlets on a Tripp Lite surge protector are designed to pass power continuously, as controlled by the master or individual power switches, to connected equipment.

Follow these instructions in an attempt to restore normal operation:
1. Remove any equipment still connected to the unit.
2. Be sure that the master switch is in the Off position.
3. Unplug the unit from the AC power source.
4. Check the circuit breaker on the unit to make sure that it is reset.
5. Find an outlet that provides computer-grade 120V AC power. Check the outlet by plugging in a device, such as an alarm clock or radio, to verify that the outlet is passing power.
6. Plug the unit into the outlet.
7. Toggle the master switch and all other power switches to the On position.
8. One by one, connect a small device, such as an alarm clock or radio, to each outlet at the rear of the unit. Test the device to make sure that it is working properly at each outlet.

If the unit is not passing power from all outlets after these steps have been followed, the unit requires replacement.
Isobar surge protectors have the ability to minimize EMI (electromagnetic interference) and RFI (radio frequency interference) on the input AC line. However, a piece of equipment attached to the Isobar may still receive interference from other devices nearby.

Here are some common reasons why a device plugged into an Isobar may be receiving interference:
    -A second device that is plugged into the same filter bank as the device receiving interference may be causing the problem.
    -Another device in use nearby can cause interference through the air, not through the AC line.
    -The surge protector may have taken a surge hit and requires replacement.


Follow these steps to identify the problem:
1. Unplug the device that is receiving interference and plug it directly into a wall outlet. Test to make sure that the device is working properly.
2. If the device operates correctly, proceed to the next step. If it does not operate correctly, contact the manufacturer of the device to determine the problem. There may also be another device close by that is causing interference.
3. Remove any other devices connected to the Isobar where the first device was plugged in.
4. Plug the device that is receiving interference back in into the same outlet where it was previously connected to the Isobar. Test to make sure your connected device is working properly.

If you have followed these steps and the device still does not work properly, the Isobar requires replacement.
