Comments about Tripp Lite Isobar 6-Outlet Surge Protector 6-ft. Cord 2850 Joules Tel/Coax/Modem Protection:

Use for living room home theater. Just got nailed by a power surge that took me out. Invested in new 65"Sony & Onkyo theater. It sounds like this Tripp-LITE ISOBAR IS WHAT I NEEDED BEFORE. The reason for a 4 star is it has not been tested yet.

Peace of mind

Comments about Tripp Lite Isobar 6-Outlet Surge Protector 6-ft. Cord 2850 Joules Tel/Coax/Modem Protection:

We installed this product three years ago above a drop ceiling over our ceiling mounted TV and cable box. Surges have been an issue from time to time in the industrial park where we are located. We've never had an issue with the TV or cable box after plugging this baby in. We are very happy with the product and the peace of mind it brings us.

Comments about Tripp Lite Isobar 6-Outlet Surge Protector 6-ft. Cord 2850 Joules Tel/Coax/Modem Protection:

Owned this isobar for over 4 years and it has never failed once to protect my pc, monitor and peripherals. Find it much more effective than your normal surge protector and better than most UPS equipment. I live in northeast Florida and am subject to intense electrical storms.

We purchase this surge protector for our tv and stereo equipment after our lest robust surge protector and tv were ruined by a power surge. We have had it about 3 years and have not had one problem. I would highly recommend it to others/

An Insurance Policy for your Electronics

By MSGTDAVE

Comments about Tripp Lite Isobar 6-Outlet Surge Protector 6-ft. Cord 2850 Joules Tel/Coax/Modem Protection:

I have TrippLite products throughout the house: sewing room, computer room, bedroom. This model was purchased specifically to protect our new TV from the electrical surges and lightning strikes that are common in my area. This is a solidly built unit with the capability to protect from not only electrical spikes, but the chance that the cable running to my house will someday take a hit and anything connected to it. I like the added protection, insurance if you will, that this ISOBAR6DBS provides. And I will recommend this to any and all with expensive electronics requiring protection.

Buzzes when I switch it on

By sixcats

Comments about Tripp Lite Isobar 6-Outlet Surge Protector 6-ft. Cord 2850 Joules Tel/Coax/Modem Protection:

This is my second Tripp Lite. The first one was replaced by the manufacturer because it stopped working. Tripp Lite honered their warrenty and getting the replacement was easy however, the replacement seems to have the same defects as the original.
Sometimes the light on the unit does not come on. Sometimes it makes a buzzing noice when I turn it on. It still seems to work, but I do wonder if it has a power surge when it comes on.

Plugged in complete 7.2 sound system into this unit. Now I have peace of mind when the next big storm blows through the area. In addition, the filters in the co-ax allows me to pull in more channels through the public station satellite box.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ISOBAR6DBS has three isolated filter banks.
A surge protector will protect your electronics by acting as an “electrical sponge” by clamping down on spikes, “soaking them up” and converting the excess energy into heat, thus preventing the spikes from passing through the surge protector into the sensitive electronic devices and damaging them. As with any “sponge” a surge protector has a limited absorption capacity. Once that capacity is reached, the unit is no longer able to protect and must be replaced.
All outlets on a Tripp Lite surge protector are designed to pass power continuously, as controlled by the master or individual power switches, to connected equipment.

Follow these instructions in an attempt to restore normal operation:
1. Remove any equipment still connected to the unit.
2. Be sure that the master switch is in the Off position.
3. Unplug the unit from the AC power source.
4. Check the circuit breaker on the unit to make sure that it is reset.
5. Find an outlet that provides computer-grade 120V AC power. Check the outlet by plugging in a device, such as an alarm clock or radio, to verify that the outlet is passing power.
6. Plug the unit into the outlet.
7. Toggle the master switch and all other power switches to the On position.
8. One by one, connect a small device, such as an alarm clock or radio, to each outlet at the rear of the unit. Test the device to make sure that it is working properly at each outlet.

If the unit is not passing power from all outlets after these steps have been followed, the unit requires replacement.
Isobar surge protectors have the ability to minimize EMI (electromagnetic interference) and RFI (radio frequency interference) on the input AC line. However, a piece of equipment attached to the Isobar may still receive interference from other devices nearby.

Here are some common reasons why a device plugged into an Isobar may be receiving interference:
-A second device that is plugged into the same filter bank as the device receiving interference may be causing the problem.
-Another device in use nearby can cause interference through the air, not through the AC line.
-The surge protector may have taken a surge hit and requires replacement.

Follow these steps to identify the problem:
1. Unplug the device that is receiving interference and plug it directly into a wall outlet. Test to make sure that the device is working properly.
2. If the device operates correctly, proceed to the next step. If it does not operate correctly, contact the manufacturer of the device to determine the problem. There may also be another device close by that is causing interference.
3. Remove any other devices connected to the Isobar where the first device was plugged in.
4. Plug the device that is receiving interference back in into the same outlet where it was previously connected to the Isobar. Test to make sure your connected device is working properly.

If you have followed these steps and the device still does not work properly, the Isobar requires replacement.
There are three common reasons why these ports may not be working properly:

-The phone cords are not connected to the proper jacks on the surge protector.
-The phone cords are not firmly seated in the phone jacks.
-A surge has come through and damaged the phone board of the surge protector.

Follow these instructions to determine if the RJ11/phone jacks are functioning properly:
1. Remove the device that is plugged into the RJ11/phone jacks on the surge protector.
2. Plug the device directly into your signal source to verify that it is operating correctly. If the device is not working, contact the device's manufacturer for further troubleshooting assistance. If it is working, proceed to the next step.
3. Install an RJ11/phone cord from the signal source to the phone port (labeled IN) on the surge protector.
4. Plug the device you want to protect from phone line surges into the OUT phone port on the surge protector.
5. Test to make sure that the device is working properly.

If you have followed these steps and the RJ11/phone connectors are still not passing a signal, the unit requires replacement.
