Overview

Tripp Lite's OMNI SMART 500 line interactive UPS system offers voltage regulation, surge suppression and long lasting battery support for personal computers, internetworking equipment and other sensitive electronics. Supports entry level PC systems for up to 30 minutes during power failures so that connected equipment can be shutdown without data loss. Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) circuits regulate brownouts as low as 75 volts and overvoltages as high as 147 back to normal 120V levels without consuming battery power. Offers complete desktop power protection in an attractive black upright tower configuration. Includes 3 battery supported outlets for computer, monitor and one vital system peripheral, plus 3 additional surge suppression-only outlets for printers and other system accessories not requiring battery support. USB port enables optional unattended system shutdown without data loss in the case of extended power failure, USB cabling and PowerAlert software included. HID-compliant USB port also enables integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows and Mac OS X. Built-in dataline protection jacks offer protection of a single dialup phone/DSL line. Built-in audible alarm and 4 front panel LEDs indicate line power status, battery power status, battery low/replace status and overload status. 500VA/300 watt power handling ability supports entry-level PCs, network workstations, point-of-sale equipment, small business phone systems, audio/video equipment and home theater systems. Offers 4 minutes battery runtime with a full load of 500VA/300 watts and 14.6 minutes with a half load of 250VA/150 watts. Supports battery replacement via built-in access panel.

Comments about Tripp Lite OmniSmart 120V 500VA 300W Line-Interactive UPS Tower USB port:

So, I had to decide between four and five stars, and I went for five, as my numerical rating would be above 4.5, an A in any class. I owned the predecessors to this product and upgraded when necessary because the promised protection was delivered (where I live lightning and power outages are frequent) and streamlining/new features were attractive. I have had to call Chicago twice with status issues, but the phone time was totally worth it because the company came through as advertised, i.e. good service and reliable goods.

Frequently Asked Questions

Follow the instructions below to perform a discharge reset for OmniSmart non-LCD UPS systems:
1. Press and hold the On/Off button on the front panel and release the button after the UPS emits a single beep. The UPS will now be powered off; no LEDs will be lit on the front panel and there will be no AC output from the Battery-Backup/Surge-Protected outlets.
2. Disconnect the UPS from its AC input source. Verify the UPS is powered off by checking to make sure that the LEDs on the front panel are not lit and that the UPS is not passing power from the Battery-Backup/Surge-Protected outlets and the Surge-Protected-Only outlets.
3. Remove the screw(s) from the battery door of the UPS and remove the battery door.
4. Tilt the UPS to allow the battery to partially slide away from the UPS, exposing the battery terminals. Locate the red and black battery cables connected to the battery. Using needle-nose pliers, disconnect one of the UPS DC input cables, either the red or black cable, from the battery. Make sure that the cable does not come in contact with the opposite battery terminal.
5. Press and hold the On/Off button on the front panel for 10 seconds and then release it.
6. Reconnect the red or black UPS DC input cable to the terminal from which it was disconnected. Note: There may be a slight arc when reconnecting the input cable.
7. Reinstall the battery door.
8. Connect the UPS to a known working AC source. The Surge-Protected-Only outlets will begin to pass power.
9. To power on the unit, press and hold the On/Off button and release it after the UPS emits a single beep. The Line Power LED will illuminate and the UPS will begin passing power from the Battery-Backup/Surge-Protected outlets.
