Server Rooms

Server Room

Challenges & Trends

Typical Environment

  • 5-25 servers in rack cabinets, plus network storage, switches and routers
  • Temperature regulated by facility air conditioning
  • Physical access controlled by a door keypad or magnetic card reader
  • Supports a small/medium business or a branch office

Security: Server rooms within non-IT venues may require extra security measures.

Use of limited space: Wall-mount and open-frame racks are used to make efficient use of limited space.

Hot spots: While most server rooms use "room cooling", supplemental in-row and in-rack AC units are used to target hot spots within a rack.

Cable management/airflow: Effective cable management increases airflow and reduces cooling costs.

Remote access and monitoring: Allows IT personnel to manage the network from anywhere, reducing labor and travel costs while assuring uptime and efficiency.
