We are aware of this problem in our 24.4b4 software and we are currently looking into this issue. Description of Bug: When keep pressing the left directional key to move the mouse pointer, it moves all the way to the left and then suddenly jump to upper left corner of the screen. At this point, you are no longer able to move the pointer using all directional keys, i.e UP, DOWN, LEFT, and RIGHT.
Yes, using the Keyspan Remote Software and compatible hardware, each button on the remote can be configured to a different action of any type (TYPES are keystroke, text string, volume, launch/open application/file, run AppleScript, or No-Action). Please see the Keyspan Remote Software documentation for details.
The ZicPlay MP3 player can only be controlled directly from the ZicPlay unit itself. A Keyspan Remote can be used to play your music files (ie MP3, WAV, WMV) and media player (ie iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc) on your computer.
Yes.
'iTunes Mode' allows you to control iTunes regardless of which program is in the foreground. iTunes mode can only control iTunes and cannot control any other functions outside of iTunes. If you wish to control actions that happen outside of iTunes, turn off 'iTunes Mode' and use the map editor to configure your applications/settings. Note: Turning off 'iTunes Mode' will still allow you to control iTunes however you will lose the ability to control iTunes when it is in the background. To control iTunes, you will have to make iTunes active (aka the foreground application). Once iTunes is in the foreground, you will be able to control iTunes.
In the Keyspan Remote Software, a keystroke is defined as one standard key plus any modifiers. A standard key is a-z, 0-1, tab, F1-F15, etc. Modifiers are SHIFT, CONTROL, ALT/OPTION, COMMAND (on Macs), etc. This done by configuring a button to use the ACTION TYPE: Keystroke in the Keyspan Remote Software. Examples of a 'Keystroke' are: 'SHIFT+A', 'CONTROL+B'. Note, if you need to send a string of data for data entry, you can send a text string by This by configuring a button to use the ACTION TYPE: Text String in the Keyspan Remote Software.
The Keyspan Remote Software's 'Keystroke' Action type will only allow you to use 1 key plus any number of modifiers (ie c+SHIFT+ALT). You cannot use multiple keys (such as c+space+d+SHIFT). If you need to enter multiple keys, you can use the 'Launch (File)' Action type and open another application or script that will enter the multiple keys for you. If you are trying to enter data, you can use the 'Text String' Action type and enter whatever text you want to send (this is similar to cut and pasting text - this is not a keystroke action).
Yes... The Digital Media Remote (DMR) software is capable of 'listening' for other types of remote controls. You can configure the DMR software to 'listen' for other remote controls by selecting a different 'REM' file (aka REMote control profiles) in our Keyspan DMR Assistant control panel/application. Currently, we only have 'REM' files for the following remote controls: * Keyspan remote control (15 buttons) * Keyspan remote control (17 buttons) * JVC VCR remote control (22 buttons) NOTE A: The DMR can only be configured to 'listen' for one remote control at a time. In other words, if you have configured the DMR to listen for to a JVC VCR remote control, it will not respond to the included 17 button remote control. NOTE B: You can create your own REM files for other remote controls. To do this, please see our FAQ# 128 at the following URL: http://keyspan.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/keyspan.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=128
- - - IMPORTANT NOTE: This information applies to Keyspan Remotes that ARE CONNECTED TO YOUR COMPUTER. If your Keyspan Remote (pn UIA-11F) is connected to an AirPort Express, this information does not apply to your setup. Airport Express is only compatible with the Keyspan Express Remote receiver (UIA-11F) and Keyspan remote (pn URM-17x) or a 'learning' remote that has been programmed to emulate the Keyspan remote. - - - Yes, you can use a 3rd party universal remote control with the Keyspan Express Remote and Keyspan Digital Media Remote. This setup requires the following: 1) a Keyspan IR Receiver (models UIA-10, UIA-11, or UIA-11F) 2a) a remote control that has 'learning' features OR 2b) a universal remote control that can be programmed for a JVC branded VCR IF YOU HAVE A LEARNING REMOTE CONTROL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - If you have a 'learning' remote control, use your remote control's learning feature to 'learn' the buttons of your Keyspan remote. In this configuration, your learning remote control emulates the Keyspan remote control. You do not need to make any changes to the Keyspan hardware/software as your remote control will send the same IR commands as the Keyspan remote. In this configuration, you can connect your Keyspan receiver to your computer directly, or, if you have a Keyspan Express Remote (with receiver model UIA-11F), you can connect your receiver to your Airport Express. This works with both your computer and Airport Express because your learning remote is emulating the Keyspan remote. IF YOU HAVE A UNIVERSAL REMOTE WITH A JVC VCR SETTING - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - If you have a 'unviersal' remote control, use set your remote control's to be a JVC VCR. Once you do this, you tell the Keyspan software on your computer to 'listen' and 'respond' to a JVC VCR remote control. This method disables the Keyspan remote control. Please note that this method only works with Keyspan receivers connected to your computer. This will not work with Keyspan receivers connected to Airport Express units since Airport Express will only respond to a Keyspan 17 button remote. In this configuration, you will need to: 1. Connect the Keyspan receiver to your computer. 2. Open the Map Editor: Mac OS 9: Open the Keyspan DMR Assistant in your Control Panels folder and click 'Configure' to open the Map Editor Mac OS X: Open the KeyspanDMR application in your APPLICATIONS folder and click 'Configure' to open the Map Editor Windows: Go to your START menu -> PROGRAMS (or ALL PROGRAMS) -> Keyspan xxx -> DMR Assistant and click 'Open Map Editor' 3. In the Map Editor, go to the SETTINGS menu -> REMOTE sub-menu -> and select 'JVC_VCR'. Close all windows and save your changes. The Keyspan software will now is now 'listening' for JVC VCR remote and will no longer respond to your Keyspan Remote. 4. Program your universal remote control to control a JVC VCR (see your remote control's manual for instructions). Note: If your universal remote control has more than one code or setting for JVC VCRs, please note which code you selected. Certain universal remotes ship with multiple codes for JVC VCRs. You may need to try several codes until you find the one that matches to the one programmed in the Keyspan software. 5. Check to see if the Keyspan Assistant detects your universal remote. Mac OS 9: Open the Keyspan DMR Assistant in your Control Panels folder and look at the CURRENT BUTTON field Mac OS X: Open the KeyspanDMR application in your APPLICATIONS folder and look at the CURRENT BUTTON field Windows: Go to your START menu -> PROGRAMS (or ALL PROGRAMS) -> Keyspan xxx -> DMR Assistant and click 'TEST REMOTE' 6. Point your universal remote at the Keyspan receiver and press and hold the PLAY button on the remote control. If the Keyspan Assistant shows PLAY in the CURRENT BUTTON field or in the TEST REMOTE box, skip ahead to Step 7. If the Keyspan Assistant shows UNRECOGNIZED DATA in the CURRENT BUTTON field or in the TEST REMOTE box, repeat Step 4 until you find the correct code. If you have tried all the codes, your remote control does not have a JVC VCR setting that matches the one in the Keyspan software. You may want to try a different universal remote control or purchase a learning remote. 7. Now that you have configured the your universal remote and Keyspan software to work together, open the Map Editor (see Step 2 for details) to assign ACTIONS to the extra buttons.
Yes, you can use our USB devices on USB hubs (and USB ports on keyboards and monitors). This is required by the USB specification. However, some third party USB ports (and those in monitors and keyboards) may not follow the USB specification and therefore not provide enough power to our USB devices. If you have a Keyspan USB device and you have problems when you are using it when connected to a USB hub, please connect the Keyspan device to a USB port on your computer. If the problem persists, you have a different problem - please contact Keyspan tech support. If the problem goes away, your USB hub may not sufficiently power your Keyspan device. In this case, please contact the maker of your hub (or monitor or keyboard) for further instructions. If you still need help, please contact Keyspan tech support.
At this time, the Express Remote and Digital Media Remote are only supported on Mac OS X and Windows platforms. Linux support is not currently planned however we are listening to customers to determine demand for such a product. We are also interested in speaking with experience Linux developers to help port the Express Remote/Digital Media Remote to Linux. If you are a customer that is interested in using the Express Remote/Digital Media Remote on Linux, please email supportdev@keyspan.com. Please include what applications you'd like to control using a Keyspan remote as well what version of Linux you are running. If you are a developer/reseller/OEM that would like to help in porting the Express Remote/Digital Media Remote to Linux, please email supportdev@keyspan.com. Keyspan appreciates your comments regarding Linux. Your input will help to determine our plans in this area.
At this time, only the Keyspan Presentation Remote (pn PR-US2) can perform a 'Click and Drag' action (see your Presentation Remote QuickStart for info). This is supported directly in the PR-US2 hardware and does not require any software. The Express Remote and Digital Media Remotes can be configured to perform a single or double left click (Mac users: standard click on a single button mouse) or a single or double right click (Mac users: control click or right click with a USB mouse). Currently, 'Click and Drag' is not a programmable option.
Keyspan remotes will only work with Keyspan receiver. You can configure a Keyspan receiver to respond to other IR remtoes (see your remote's documentation for details). IR ports / IRDA ports that are built into your computer typically cannot be configured to receive commands from a Keyspan remote UNLESS your computer's manufacturer specifically supports it.
There is no 'functional' difference but the hardware inside the 15T is different and so is the plastic. The Keyspan Remote Software, the latest version, is compatible with all IR based remotes. HOWEVER, the URM-17A (aka the Express Remote) is different. It works with AirPort Express as well as your computer. The other remotes don't have this feature.
We have sold three remotes with similar enclosures but they have slightly different charateristics. Keyspan Digital Media Remote [Discontinued]: included a 15 button (and later a 17 buttob remote and USB receiver) Controls Mac and Windows computers.
USB host devices, like USB PCI cards and the USB ports on your computers, are often assigned IRQs. However, by design, all USB devices, not just devices made by Keyspan, do not use IRQ in any way.
Most Keyspan products require at least Windows 98 or better. For specific information about a certain product's minimum system requirements, please see that product's documentation and our web page on Keyspan's website. Windows NT is often not supported due to the stability of USB drivers on Windows NT. Additional Info About the UFT-125 (Keyspan File Transfer Cable) Please note that the 'parallel' side of the UFT-125 is not supported on Windows NT. The Parallel side requires: Windows 95/98/98SE/Me/2000/XP.
Keyspan does not offer a USB to ADB adapter at this time. For the most up-to-date list of our current products, please visit the following URL: http://www.tripplite.com/EN/products/index.cfm POINT TO CORECT LINK
In the past, Keyspan has developed WinCE drivers for our USB to Serial adapters for specific WinCE enabled devices (ie NEC MobilePro, Toshiba e740). At the moment, Keyspan does not support WinCE due to the lack of demand for these drivers. If a company would like to contract via Engineering for support on their device, we can review that idea via our customization department (supportdev@keyspan.com). You may want to have your device manufacturer contact us if they require overall serial support for their product. Please note that in order to connect ANY USB device to a WinCE device, your WinCE device MUST HAVE A >>USB HOST PORT. Most WinCE devices have a USB ports for connecting to USB host ports on other devices (ie a WinCE PDA connects to the USB host port on your computer). Most WinCE devices DO NOT HAVE USB HOST capabilities.
The Presentation Remote (http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/presentationremote/) comes with a builtin laser pointer. The Presentation Remote is specifically designed for controlling presentation software such as Power Point and Keynote. The Keyspan Easy Presenter also has a laser pointer (http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/prez1/). The Express Remote (http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/urm17a/) does not include a laser pointer. This product is designed for controlling iTunes or any multimedia application. The Express Remote can also be connected to an Apple AirPort Express to control your iTunes music remotely.
Yes... Starting with version 2.4, Keyspan has added support for Front Row in the Keyspan Remote software. This software is compatible with Macs running 10.3 or greater including Intel based Macs. Please note, before installing this software, please uninstall any previous software to get the new features found in 2.4.
The error "Keyspan DMR Mapper Daemon error. Unable to open KDMRwin.cfg for reading" means that the Keyspan DMR Mapper Daemon (the application that parses button presses on your remote and turns them into actions) cannot open one if its configuration files because it is missing or because you don't have access to the file. If you are getting this message, please contact Keyspan tech support and provide the following information: * if you have updgraded to the latest version of the Keyspan remote software * if you are running Windows 2000 or XP, please indicate if you have administrator privledges * if you have virus protection software on your computer * the version number of the Keyspan software you have installed * if you have files in the following location: C:\Program Files\Keyspan\Remote * in the same location, do you have a file called 'KDMRwin.cfg'? Workaround(s): 1. Disconnect you Keyspan receiver from you computers USB port 2. Uninstall the Keyspan software via the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS control panel 3. Reboot 4. Disable any virus protection software (this is only need while we install the Keyspan software and hardware. Virus protection can be enabled afterwards) 5. Install the latest Keyspan remote software from http://www.keyspan.com/downloads/ 6. Connect the Keyspan receiver when you are prompted to do so 7. Open the Keyspan software
If you press a button on your Keyspan remote and the KeyspanDMR application reports 'unrecognized data' instead of displaying the name of the button you are pressing, then the DMR software is not set to 'listen' for your remote. To fix this, open the Keyspan DMR Assistant and then open the Map Editor (Mac users should click on the Configure button at the bottom of the Assistant). In the Map Editor, locate the 'Settings' menu and then the 'Remote' selection. You will see a list of remotes. Select the remote file that matches the remote that you are using.

Creating your own REM file is something that isn't particularly hard, however, you do need to figure out some obscure information before you can proceed. Basically, you need to figure out your remote control's 'Frequency' and 'Bit Time'. Once you have this information, you also need to determine each button's 'Data Token'. If you do not know your remote's 'Frequency' and 'Bit Time', you need to: * ask your Remote Control's manufacturer for this info * determine this yourself by buying equipment that will tell you this info (expensive) or figure this out by guessing (very, very time consuming). Using your remote's 'Frequency' and 'Bit Time', you can then create a REM file that forces the DMR receiver to 'listen' to your remote control. Once you have this simple REM file, you can use the DMR’s software to determine each 'Data Token' for every button on your remote control. Please note: * our DMR Receiver only supports remotes with 'Frequencies' of 38000 Hz. Remotes with other frequencies (higher or lower) will not work. Creating a REM file is something that we encourage anyone with a background in infrared to do. Because of this, we provide technical documentation that will assist in this procedure and provide support via email. To download this documentation, please go to: http://www.keyspan.com/downloads/ (In the deveopers section) This documentation is Mac oriented, however, the same principles apply to Windows. Please take the time to read the 2 PDFs and email supportdev@keyspan.com if you have any questions. PLEASE NOTE: THE INSTRUCTIONS ONLY APPLY TO MAC OS 9 and WINDOWS. The Mac OS X software does not have the diagnostic mode required to make REM files. REM files created in MAC OS 9 and WINDOWS will work with Mac OS X - you just can't create a REM file using the Mac OS X software.
The Remote Wakeup feature in the Keyspan Remote Software allows you to use your Keyspan remote to ‘wake’ your computer from sleep mode. To enable this feature, you need to select the desired sensitivity in the Remote software’s SETTING menu. Under the SETTING menu, you should have “RemoteWakupSensitivity”. Select the desired sensitivity from Extremely Low to Extremely High. Setting Remote Wakeup Sensitivity to “Extremely High” will make your computer wake up when very little IR data is received by the Keyspan Receiver. If the Receiver detects a simple button press on your DMR Remote or receives any IR data from any other remote control (i.e. DVD, TV, VCR, etc), your computer will wake up from sleep mode. Setting Remote Wakeup Sensitivity to “Extremely Low” will make your computer wake up when the Keyspan Receiver unit receives a substantial amount of IR data. Your computer will only wake up if you press and hold a button on the DMR remote control for several seconds or if the DMR receiver detects any IR data from any other remote control for an extended period of time. This wakeup feature is turned OFF by default. Note: Remote Wakeup is only enable on Keyspan Receiver model numbers: UIA-11, UIA-FF, and UIA-11H.

The following is an overview and instructions on how to share/copy your Keyspan customized remote files (REM files) and customized application settings (MAP files). This FAQ is broken up into the following sections: - File Descriptions - File Locations - Comments About Copying Files File Descriptions - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - There are 2 types of files that are can be customized: - REM files REM files contain IR codes for certain remote controls. The default Keyspan installation include several files for Keyspan remotes and one for a JVC VCR remote control. REM files tell the Keyspan receiver what to respond to. When you press a button on your remote, the receiver receives the IR data from your remote and then the receiver looks up the REM file to see if there's a button that matches that code/data. If it finds a match, the Keyspan remote software registers a valid button press and then looks up the MAP file... - MAP files Map files contain 'actions' that the Keyspan remote control will perform when it a valid button press is received (determined by your REM file). The Keyspan software determine what is the foreground/active application, looks it up in the MAP file, and then processes an 'action' (ie keystroke, volume control, etc) for the selected button. For example, if you are running iTunes and the Keyspan software determined that you pressed the PLAY button on your remote, the Keyspan remote looks up the MAP file to see iTunes is in the map. If it is, then it looks to see if an action is assigned to the PLAY button and then it performs that action. If iTunes is not found in the MAP file, actions are taken from the DEFAULT map. MAP files contain all actions for all of the defined applications as well as the defined DEFAULT map. Lastly, you have the: - CFG file The .CFG file is dynamically created by the Keyspan remote file. It tells the Keyspan remote software which REM and MAP file is currently active. Only one .MAP file and one .REM file can be active at a time. Comments About Copying Files - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Once modified your custom MAP and REM files, you need to STOP the Keyspan MAPPER via the Keyspan Remote software (see your user manual for details). Then you can copy your REM and/or MAP files to a different location. Once you have your REM and/or MAP files, you can take them to a different computer. On the other computer, place your REM and/or MAP files in the the appropriate Keyspan settings folder (see the File Locations section below). Next, open the Keyspan MAP EDITOR via Keyspan Remote Software. In MAP EDITOR, select your REM/MAP file via SETTINGS MENU (this modifies the CFG file to point to the new files). Alternately, you can also provide your own CFG file to skip this step. File Locations - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - On Mac OS X, the Keyspan REM and map files are locate in your user's folder: ~yourUserName/Library/Preferences/Keyspan DMR Preferences/ On Windows, the Keyspan REM and map files are locate in your Keyspan folder in your Program Files c:\Program Files\Keyspan\
You can use your Express Remote control up to 40 feet (12.19 meters) away. The Express Remote uses IR which requires that you have basic 'line-of-sight' between the Keyspan remote and the Keyspan receiver.
Under normal use, the Keyspan Remote's batteries (battery model CR2025) should last approximately one year. Replacement batteries can be purchased at locations like Radioshack (in the US) and at most resellers where hearing aid and watch batteries are sold. To help ensure that you receive the maximum battery life, it is recommended that you remove the battery from your Keyspan Remote when it is not in use. Your battery will drain over the course of a few hours if the battery is inside your remote and something is continually pressing one of your remote's buttons (ie if the remote is in a tight computer bag, objects are pressing against the face of the remote, etc.). IMPORTANT NOTE: Battery life will vary depending on usage. Keyspan's warranty service does not cover battery replacement. If your battery did not work when you initially purchased the Keyspan Presentation Remote, please return the remote to your reseller for a replacement.
This bug has been fixed in the Keyspan Remote Software version 2.2. This was a bug in an older version of the Keyspan Remote Software for Windows. This bug affected version 2.0.5.1 and possibly earlier versions. The bug would not allow you to fast forware or rewind within MusicMatch but would allow you switch to the Next/Previous Track.
Keyspan is aware of this problem in the Keyspan Remote Software version 2.2 with Rhapsody software version 2.1 (build 0.243). We are currently looking into this problem. When we have more details or a solution to this problem, we will post information on this FAQ page.
Connecting and controlling iTunes via an AirPort Express and a Keyspan Express Remote does not require any Keyspan software. You do need the the latest version iTunes version (currently v4.7.1) and the latest version of the AirPort Express firmware (currently v6.1.1). Both iTunes and the AirPort Express firmware can be found at Apple's website (http://www.apple.com). The Keyspan Remote Software can only communicate and configure Keyspan remotes that are connected directly into your computer's USB port. It cannot 'see' a Keyspan remote that is connected to an AirPort Express. Because of this, you cannot use the Keyspan Remote Software. If you want to control applications besides iTunes, you will need to connect the Express Remote directly to your computer's USB port. If you want to change the Express Remote's button settings for iTunes, please note that the button settings are not configurable when your Express Remote is connected to an AirPort Express. You can only configure your settings when your Express Remote is connected directly to your computer's USB port.
This is a known bug in version 2.2 of the Keyspan Remote Software for Mac OS X. When this fix is released we will update the FAQ page Description of Bug: Keystroke Action Types that include the CONTROL key as a modifier do not work. For example, if you program a keystroke of CONTROL+COMMAND+A, you will only get COMMAND+A.
The Keyspan IR Remotes and receivers uses an infrared technology called tvIR. The tvIR technology is the same technology that is found in most standard television remote control units. tvIR is used to transmit small amounts of data (in comparison to irDA) over relatively long distances (i.e. across a room). irDA is a different technology that is commonly used in desktop, laptop, and handheld computers to transmit large amounts of data (in comparison to tvIR) over small distances (i.e. across a desk). Generally, the two technologies cannot communicate with each other. For example: * the Keyspan IR Receiver unit cannot be used to send or receive data via irDA to an irDA enabled computer * the Keyspan IR remote control cannot be use used to control an irDA enabled computer. However, there are some cases where tvIR and irDA can communicate with each other. There are 3rd party programs that allow irDA enabled devices to learn and send tvIR commands (for example, OmniRemote for Palm handheld computers: http://www.pacificneotek.com/ This allows you to use irDA enabled device as a tvIR remote control. Using this software, you send tvIR commands to the DMR Receiver unit so that you can control your computer in the same way that you do when using the Keyspan DMR Remote control.
Apple's software that lets you install Windows XP on your Intel based Mac, allows your Mac hardware to boot directly into Windows. This makes your Mac hardware into a 'real Windows computer'. Because of your Mac is running Windows directly, your Mac is identical to any other Windows PC. This gives you the same functionality, performance, and reliability of USB/Serial/Parallel/etc that you would find on a 'real Windows computer' (as opposed to Windows running in an emulator ie VirtualPC/Parallels). At this point, any Keyspan device that has Windows drivers is compatible with Bootcamp. Please note that certain Keyspan products are Mac only like the USA-28X (Windows never had Din8 connectors therefore most Windows apps don't know how to communicate with Din8 ports). In short, if your Mac supports Bootcamp and you have Keyspan product that shipped with Windows drivers, this will work and it is 100% supported by Keyspan. ADDITIONAL NOTE: Bootcamp, as of July 2006, is beta software. This information may change but Keyspan does not expect it to. However, this will only be determine when Apple releases Bootcamp as a non-beta software.

06.22.2006 - Mac OS X for Intel Beta Drivers Posted UPDATE: USB Serial Adapter Software Finalized (GMed) Keyspan has posted 'Universal Binaries' for certain Keyspan products. 'Universal Binaries' can be used on Intel-based Macs (with 10.4.3 or later) and Motorola based Macs (ie G3, G4, and G5 Macs). Important Note: If you have an Intel based Mac, please UNINSTALL any previously installed Keyspan software PRIOR to installing these BETAs. Failure to do so will may cause your computer to become unstable. Please note: This software can be used on Macs without Intel processors. A Note About Betas: Beta software is software that has not been fully tested under every possible configure. Keyspan will release public betas to get feedback on upcoming software and to find any potential bugs in the new beta. If you are uncomfortable with installing betas, please do not install this software and wait for the 'GM' aka Golden Master release that will follow the beta release. If you do encounter any bugs, please contact techsupport@tripplite.com Previous News: 01.10.2006 - Mac OS X for Intel Beta Drivers Posted
In Mac OS X 10.2.x, the COMMAND+TAB keystroke will only cycle between the current the application and the previously used application. This behavior is the Mac OS X 10.2.x system default and is normal on Mac OS X 10.2.x. Since the Keyspan Remote Software sets the CYCLE key to the COMMAND+TAB keystroke, you will only be able to 'cycle' between the previous application and the currently application. In Mac OS X 10.1.x and Mac OS X 10.3.x, COMMAND+TAB will cycle between all open applications when press and hold down BOTH the COMMAND key and the TAB key on your keyboard. You will get the same behavior when using the CYCLE button on your Keyspan remote control. If you do not like the above behaviors for your version of Mac OS X, please note that you can configure the CYCLE button to: send a different KEYSTROKE, LAUNCH AN ITEM/APPLICATION, change the SYSTEM VOLUME, run an APPLESCRIPT, or do nothing. Configuring the CYCLE button to use a different ACTION TYPE is done via the Keyspan Map Editor. Please read the documentation that came with your Keyspan remote for details on how to do this.
The message 'The Installer package 'xxx' cannot be opened. The Bill of Materials for this package was not found.' means that installer.app is having problems with the .pkg installer that you have downloaded. This means that that your .pkg file is corrupted. In general, there are two causes of this problem. The original pkg file was corrupted before you received it or the pkg file was corrupted as it was extracted/expanded after it was downloaded. Since Keyspan's downloads are tested before they are posted, the usual cause of this problem (here at Keyspan) is that your file expander (ie Stuffit or Stuffit Expander) is corrupting the file. To fix this issue, we recommend that you: 1. delete all of downloaded Keyspan files (pkg files and zip files) 2. re-download the Keyspan file(s). This time, don't use Stuffit/Stuffit Expander. Instead, find the Keyspan .zip file, select the file (aka highlight it), right click or control-click on the zip file (to open the contextual submenu), select OPEN WITH > BOMArchive Helper. This will open the file with Apple's utility and create a new .pkg file. 3. run/double-click the new pkg file. If you have any questions, please contact Keyspan support. FYI... Upgrading to the latest version of Stuffit and/or Stuffit Expander can sometimes fix this issue as well.
The 'TUSB3410 Boot Device' item in the Apple System Profiler or in the Windows Device Manager means that your Keyspan adapter is defective. If you are in the US, we ask that you contact Keyspan directly for an immediate replacement of your unit. If you are outside of the US, please contact Keyspan for a distributor in country that will replace this unit for you.

The Express Remote is a full speed, low power USB device. This means that the Express Remote communicates at 12 Mbps/sec (full speed) and uses less than 100mA (low power). Note: According to the USB spec, USB low power devices can be connected to any type of USB port regardless whether your USB port is powered or not. However, not all USB hubs follow the USB spec. If you have a low power USB device that doesn't work on your USB hub, please connect your USB device to either a different hub (one that supports USB low power devices) or your computer's USB port.

The error 'The Keyspan DMRMapperApplication is missing the necessary configuration files. Please re-install.' means that when the Keyspan Remote Software could not find its configuration files on your computer. The configuration files are used by the Keyspan Remote Software for a) determining what type of remote to 'listen' for (the Keyspan *.CFG file) b) determine what buttons are on that remote (the Keyspan *.REM file(s)) and c) what ACTION happens when you press a button on the remote (the Keyspan *.MAP file(s)). You will get this message if the Keyspan configuration files are not in your User's LIBRARY folder ([yourUserName]/Library/Preferences/Keyspan DMR Preferences/). This is usually caused by the following scenarios: * the Keyspan config files were deleted. * your Keyspan Remote Software installation failed due to permissions issues (ie you installed the Keyspan software using an account that does not have admin permissions). * the permissions of the Keyspan configuration files were changed by a 3rd party application * your User/Home directory is not on the same partition as your Mac OS X 'System' folder (because your User/Home folder is on a network server or because you changed the location of your User/Home folder to another partition) If you receive this error, please contact Keyspan tech support for help resolving this issue. Additional Info: The Keyspan configuration files for the Keyspan Remote software are kept in the following location: - /Users/[UserName]/Library/Preferences/Keyspan DMR Preferences/ - /Users/[UserName]/Library/Preferences/Keyspan DMR Preferences/com.keyspan.remote.plist - /Users/[UserName]/Library/Preferences/Keyspan DMR Preferences/com.keyspan.musicdb.plist - /Users/[UserName]/Library/Preferences/Keyspan DMR Preferences/Keyspan DMR Map Editor.plist Notes: - - - - Keyspan remote software supports user folders that are not on the same hard drive/partition as the system folder in our version 2.4x software. If you are having this problem, uninstall your existing software, and then install the 2.4x software. Potential Workaround - - - - - - - - - - - If your user folder/preference folder is located on a different partition than your system folder, creating a 'symlink' to your 'UserName' folder will often solve this issue. This is a known Microsoft error.
A 'REM' file in the Digital Media Remote is a file that contains a profile for a specific remote control. This file contains important information about a remote control and its characteristics. This file contains: * the frequency and but time of the remote control * the 'code' for each button on the remote control By selecting a REM file in the DMR software, you are telling the DMR receiver hardware to listen for buttons codes that sent at a certain frequency and bit time.
USB 2.0 comes in three different subcategories * USB 2.0 Low Speed (up to 1.5 Mb/sec) * USB 2.0 Full Speed (up to 12 Mb/sec) * USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (up to 480 Mb/sec) USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices can be connected to a USB 2.0 Full Speed port but they will only work at USB 2.0 Full Speed rates. Note: In many cases, USB 2.0 is incorrectly used to identify only USB 2.0 High Speed but the USB 2.0 includes differents speeds and subsumes the previous USB 1.1 spec. Note: USB 2.0 Full Speed devices (sometimes called USB 1.1 devices) connected into USB 2.0 Hi-Speed ports will continue to operate at USB 2.0 Full Speed data rates (12 Mb/sec). USB 2.0 Full Speed devices will not slow USB Hi-Speed devices as they operate independently of each other.

April 29, 2005. - - - - - Overview - - - - - In general, most current Keyspan products are compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 (aka Tiger) provided that you install the latest Keyspan drivers for your specific device. These drivers are freely available via Keyspan's website (http://www.keyspan.com/). Please note that if are connecting an additional hardware device to your Keyspan product (ie, you are connecting a printer to the Keyspan USB Server, connecting a PDA to a Keyspan serial adapter), you may need to ALSO need to download 10.4 compatible software for your device. IMPORTANT INFO FOR 10.3 USERS WHO HAVE OR ARE UPGRADING TO 10.4.x: If you have installed Keyspan USB Server software 1.3.x under Mac OS X 10.3 and upgrade to 10.4, please note that you will have to reinstall the Keyspan software under 10.4. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - USB Server (US-4A) and Print Server (PS-4A) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - USB Server and Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Compatibility: Version 1.2.x (and previous versions) ARE NOT COMPATIBLE with Mac OS X 10.4. Port 3689. AirPort Express (AirTunes) uses port 3689 to communicate with the Keyspan Express Remote. IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT FIREWALLS: Most firewalls block ports above 1024 (including port 3689). If you have a firewall enabled, you may not be able to immediately use your Express Remote connected to an AirPort Express. To resolve this issue, either enable (aka create a hole/exception for) port 3689 on firewall or disable your firewall. See your firewall's instructions for details on how to do this. ADDITIONAL INFO: Often, firewalls will allow outgoing data on port 3689 but will not allow incoming data on the same port. This causes music to play from iTunes to your AirPort Express but commands coming from the Keyspan Express Remote (via the AirPort Express) will not be received by iTunes (and thefore volume control, previous/next track, etc. will not work). To solve this problem, enable (aka create a hole/exception for) port 3689 on firewall or disable your firewall. See your firewall's instructions for details on how to do this.
The Keyspan Remote Software can be configured to control any application. By default, the Keyspan Remote Software comes pre-configured to work with the most common applications (such as iTunes, PowerPoint, Keynote (for Mac OS X), DVD players, and many others) so you can use your Keyspan Remote hardware right out of the box. If you have a program that isn't on the list of pre-configured applications list, you can easily add that program to the Keyspan Remote Software. Once you add that program, you can set each button on the Keyspan remote to perform a specific action (available actions include: keystroke, volume control, mouse control, text input, open file/application, AppleScript for Mac, and no action). For example, if your program uses the SPACEBAR to initiate a slide show, program the PLAY key to send the keystroke 'Spacebar'. At this point, any time your application is running and in the foreground, hitting the PLAY button will cause your application to initiate the slide show. Note: You application comes with a list of keyboard shortcuts (aka keyboard commands) that your program will respond to. Please see your applications HELP or documentation for a list of its available commands.
iTunes Mode allows you to control iTunes while it is in the background. In this mode, the Keyspan Remote Software will only control iTunes and not other applications. iTunes Mode only enables certain buttons on the Keyspan Remote (see your electronic user guide for details). This cannot be changed or reprogrammed in the current version of the Keyspan Remote Software.
Certain versions of iTunes do not support Fast Forward/Rewind via a keystoke action. To enable fast forward/rewind, turn on the 'iTunes Mode' checkbox in the Keyspan Remote Software. The Keyspan Remote Software's 'iTunes Mode' does not use keystrokes to control iTunes, instead it sends direct commands to iTunes. Note: When 'iTunes Mode' is enabled, the Keyspan Remote Software will ONLY CONTROL ITUNES (whether it's running in the forground or hidden in the background). You will not be able to control other applications when 'iTunes Mode' is enabled.
The error, 'Incompatible version of the RPC stub, error number 0x80070725', is related to certain incorrect installation of certain files. This problem is not Keyspan related but will appear when you have 3rd party software that does not install the correct drivers. For details about this problem and how to fix it, please see the following link at Microsoft's website: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321915
An electronic version of the documentation/user manual/user guide is included on the CD that came with your Keyspan remote.
Keyspan has disabled certain email accounts. If you are replying to a message that we sent you, please note the link that was listed at the bottom of your email. This link will look something like this: - - - - - SAMPLE MESSAGE/LINK DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE..
If you have a large PowerPoint file with many images (or high res images), multimedia elements (ie embedded movies, music, etc), and/or transitions between slides, PowerPoint may temporarily stop responding to keyboard and mouse events from your Keyspan remote and/or keyboard and mouse events from your computer's keyboard and mouse. In these cases, your button press may be queue up. When PowerPoint is ready to receive events, those queued up button presses will be sent to PowerPoint. This often causes the illusion that your PowerPoint presentation is going to the next/previous slide on its own. To isolate your presentation file as a source of the problem, create a new blank presentation with several screens. Put some plain text on each screen so that you can recognize each individual slide. Next, use your Keyspan remote to move between your slides. If your performance seems to have improved, you should go through your presentation to see what element(s) PowerPoint is having trouble with. If you continue to notice that your presentation moves on its own, please keep reading. The other common cause of this problem is interference from other remotes or other RF/IR sources (RF if you have a Presentation Remote, IR if you have a Digital Media Remote, Remote for iTunes, or Express Remote). To determine if this is the case, take your Keyspan remote and computer to a different location. If you have an IR based remote, move the remote and the computer to a different room is usually sufficient. If you have a RF remote, move the remote and computer away as far as possible (40 feet or more is preferable) to avoid RF interference. Next, connect the Keyspan receiver to your computer and take out the batteries from your Keyspan remote. Setup your presentation. If you see your presentation move by itself, you ,ay still have interference. Lastly, this could be cause by a defective remote/receiver. We have not documented a single case of this happening but it is always a possibility. If you have tried the above suggestions, please feel free to contact Keyspan for warranty repair information.
The blinking status light on the Keyspan IR Receiver means: * the Keyspan Remote Software's Mapper IS NOT RUNNING OR INSTALLED CORRECTLY. To start the Mapper, open the Keyspan Assistant (Mac OS X: KeyspanDMR Windows: DMR Assistant Mac OS 8-9: Keyspan DMR Assistant) and click the Start Mapper button. or * If the Keyspan Remote's Software Mapper IS RUNNING, the Keyspan receiver hardware is receiving IR signals from something IR source (such as your Keyspan remote). You can test this by using standard consumer electronics remote control (ie your TV's remote, DVD remote, etc). Just point it to the Keyspan receiver and press a button. The receiver's status light will blink rapidly If you are not pressing a button on the Keyspan remote, please note that the receiver hardware does not discriminate what IR is detected (the Keyspan software is what determines what IR signal gets converted to an action on-screen). Because of this, just about anything can cause the receiver light to blink provided that the source happens to emit IR. IR ports on computers, certain fluorescent lights, IR based security systems, tvIR devices (like your TV remote and even your TV - some TVs emit IR as well as receive it) can all be sources of stray IR signals. Stray IR will not cause damage to your Keyspan hardware nor be able to control your computer like the Keyspan remote (because the Keyspan software will ignore these stray IR signals). However, if the Keyspan receiver is constantly receiving stray IR, any valid IR signals may take more time to be processed (resulting in a delay between the time you press a button on your Keyspan remote and the time you see an action on your computer).
BEFORE YOU READ: Please note that this information for users that are not using the include Keyspan remote with their Keyspan IR receivers. Users interested in this FAQ have changed their default configurations so that their Keyspan receivers receive commands from JVC VCR remote controls or a universal remote that is sending JVC VCR commands. If you have not done this, please IGNORE THIS FAQ. Please note that VOLUME CONTROL IS NOT A FEATURE ON ANY VCR REMOTE. Volume controls on VCRs don't control the VCR's volume. They actually control the TV/monitor's volume. Because of this, the volume buttons operate on a different frequency and bit time than the VCR controls. Since the Keyspan software is set to listen to the VCR commands, you cannot get volume control. Workarounds: * Set unused keys to perform volume control for your JVC VCR map. * use a different REM file
The reason why the extra buttons on your universal remote control missing from our JVC VCR REM file is due to several reasons depending on the universal remote control you have. We have only supported 22 buttons on the JVC VCR REM file because these 22 buttons are typically found on all JVC VCR and uinversal remote controls. Extra buttons such as "Prev" , Last, Select, "VCR", "CD", "DVD" etc typically cannot be added to a REM file due the following reasons: * these buttons do not actually emit tvIR infrared signals * are not standard on the actual JVC VCR remote control * use a different frequency than the JVC VCR remote control
