Overview

Tripp Lite's U244-001-R USB to DVI / VGA Display Adapter enables you to connect an additional monitor or projector to a computer/laptop USB 2.0 port. Up to six U244-001-R adapters can be used simultaneously, allowing the user to connect up to six additional monitors to a single computer. Once the installation is done, the computer screen appears on the add-on monitor(s) without the hassle of function keys to swap to a second monitor. The U244-001-R chip-set supports video resolutions up to 1920 x 1080 (60Hz), 1080p (60Hz). The U244-001-R is compatible with Windows 2000 and later, and Mac OS X 10.4 and later operating systems.

System Requirements

  • USB 2.0 port
  • VGA or DVI monitor
  • A computer running Windows 2000 or later; or, an Intel-based Mac running OS X 10.4 or later. Power PC-based Macs are not supported.

Computer requirements when using 1 to 2 display adapters:
  • 1.2GHz Single-Core CPU
  • 512MB memory

Computer requirements when using 3 display adapters:
  • 1.8GHz Single-Core CPU
  • 1GB memory

Computer requirements when using 4 to 6 display adapters:
  • 1.6GHz Core-Duo CPU
  • 1GB memory

Note: Only 1 added monitor can support DVD playback. In order to support DVD playback, your computer must meet the following requirements:
  • 2.0GHz Core-Duo CPU
  • 1GB memory
  • Adapter screen resolution must be set to 800 x 600 with 16-bit color

Perfect for the job I purchased two external monitors for my laptop but when connecting them the splitter I had would not produce 3 independent screen areas. I researched and found this product which arrived quicker than expected and plugged it in and the driver was automatically downloaded from Microsoft Update and the 3rd monitor instantly began to function as expected. Every time I plug in the adapter on my computer's USB port it invariably goes to BSD.
My computer (laptop) specs:
HP Pavilion dv7
Intel Core i7 @ 2.20GHz
8Gb RAM
64 bit OS
Windows 7 Ultimate with SP1
(I have 1 SSD for OS and 1 HDD for data)

I've tried all USB ports available (4 total) and they all do the same, the driver begins to install and then BSD - memory dump. I followed the instructions to the letter.

Answer: 
A USB port on a computer outputs 500mA, and the U244-001-R requires 430mA, so there should be plenty of power available. If there are other USB ports in use that may be lessening the draw, or the laptop is on battery vs AC power, that may be an issue as well. A powered USB hub will provide full 500mA to USB ports, so a hub may help. Our Chicago Tech Support team will also be happy to help troubleshoot as well....call tham at 1-773-869-1234.

Driver for Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion?

I just upgraded my Mac and found that my U244-001-R is not working with the latest driver that was made for 10.7. Can you give me an estimated date of when a driver that will support Mountain Lion will be available? I work on a team of about 70 people, all of whom are on Macs and most of whom use the U244-001-R so that they can use two external monitors. For our team, this is an important consideration of when they will upgrade. Thanks in advance for any estimate you can provide.

Used Mountain Lion without your driver for a couple weeks without issue. After installing your driver, whenever I put the computer to sleep and then open it up to use it without external monitors attached, it gives me a white/gray screen, says the computer has experienced an issue and automatically restarts. I have uninstalled your driver and now the issue is longer happening. Please fix and post revised driver.

This adapter states that it is compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 or later, but I'm not able to get it to work on my Mac running OS X 10.7. Why?
The Mac OS X 10.7 driver is still under Beta testing and is available only online and not on the CD that comes with the product. Please use the Mac OS X 10.7 driver on the product web page.
