Great Product I recently upgraded my computer. Now I have no 9 pin serial port. I needed to interface with a gas monitor to download logged data. I plugged in the U209-000-R and it connected immediately with no problems. It is a great product. May 8, 2013

This product is easy to set up and gives excellant performance The Tripp Lite USB-RS232 Adapter was simple to set up and works perfectly. I am using the adapter to connect serial Amateur Radio equipment to my Windows 7 computer for the purpose of memory programing and Firm-Ware updates. The adapter provides an easy to use and effective tool allowing me to connect my older serial equipment to my Windows 7 computer's USB port. November 17, 2012

Compare U209-000-R to USA-19HS

Is the USA-19HS just a high speed version of the U209-000-R?

I used a USA-19HS today for a PC where the serial port was not functioning to connect a bar code wand. The wand in the past connected to a port at 9600bps. I want to buy another as a spare for PCs with a faulty serial port. Would a U209-000-R be adequate for the same bar code wand?

Answer:
I am afraid that the answer given is not satisfactory. Under the Q&A section for the USA-19HS product, there is an entry "what chipset does the USA-19HS" use, and the answer is "Texas Instrument chipset". Presumably, it uses the 8052 type microcontroller, like the earlier Keyspan 19's.

Now I have here an actual Tripp-Lite U209-000-R unit right here on my desk. It is based on the Prolific PL-2303 chip! I'm able to use it with PL-2303 drivers.

And I know exactly what drivers are used because I'm using Linux, and can see the kernel log messages from the pl2303 driver as they recognize the device when it's plugged in. That's the only USB Serial driver I compiled in, and it drives the adapter.

So, no, the difference is deeper than just branding or software bundling. It is different hardware.

The two units are more different from each other than are two PL-2303 dongles from totally different manufacturers.

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. There is no difference in the speed at which these two adapters communicate with the connected devices. The main difference between the U209-00-R and the USA-19HS between is that the USA-19HS comes with drivers that enable the adapter to support some versions of MAC OS.

I am using 3 of your U209-000-Rs on a system I'm running for test purposes. They are connected to 3 test systems, and the PC is then accessed via Remote Desktop or KVM-over-IP. I need to be able to determine remotely which device is connected to which system. I've looked through the properties under Device Manager in Win7, and thought that "Physical Device Object Name" would work, but it changes when the system is rebooted. I didn't find any other usable properties that didn't change when either the USB port changed and/or the PC was rebooted. Is there any kind of static device ID / serial number that is different per USB adapter? Or any way to differentiate between the three?

Thanks.
