Tripp Lite's BCPERS300 standby UPS offers AC surge suppression and long lasting battery support for desktop PCs, network workstations and a wide variety of consumer and electronic devices. Uninterruptible Power Supply / UPS circuits switch to battery backup mode within milliseconds to keep connected equipment running without interruption or data loss during power failures, brownouts and overvoltages. AC surge suppression prevents connected equipment damage.

Comments about Tripp Lite BC Personal 120V 300VA 180W Standby UPS Tower 3 Outlets:

I have been using Tripp-lite personal UPS's for many years. They have worked. I use this new BCS 300 to protect my modem/router and internet phone system. It tested fine. Bigger UPS's need a much larger load to provide uninterrupted back-up power. Having this independent backup for my critical systems provides the assurance I need to be able to operate during power interruptions. bruceds

Frequently Asked Questions

When the red Overload/Check Battery LED is flashing, the internal battery of the UPS system requires a recharge or replacement due to age.

Follow the instructions below in an attempt to restore normal operation:
1. Power off and remove any equipment connected to the UPS.
2. Power off the UPS by pressing the On/Off button and holding it until the UPS beeps. Release the On/Off button and disconnect the UPS from the AC outlet.
3. Determine if the UPS has a removable battery door by examining the bottom of the UPS.

    -If there is no battery door, continue to step 6.
    -If there is a battery door, continue to step 4.

4. Remove the battery door and carefully remove the battery for inspection.

    -If the battery is bloated or damaged, purchase and install an appropriate replacement battery. When the UPS is returned to service, be sure it is adequately ventilated.
    -If a voltmeter is available, check the battery’s voltage. If the battery’s voltage is less than 10V DC, purchase and install an appropriate replacement battery. The UPS system's charger cannot recharge a battery with voltage lower than 10V DC.
     -If the UPS and battery are more than two years old, purchase and install an appropriate replacement battery. Battery performance and capacity deteriorate over time, and a replacement is needed periodically.
      -If none of the above applies, inspect the battery cables attached to the battery. Remove any build-up of corrosion found on the battery terminals or connectors.

5. Ensure that both the positive and negative connectors are firmly attached to the correct battery leads: the red lead to the red terminal, the black lead to the black terminal. Reinstall the battery and battery door.
6. Determine if the UPS has a circuit breaker (button- or plunger-style) by examining the perimeter of the UPS.

    -If there is no circuit breaker, continue to the next step.
    -If there is a circuit breaker, press the button inward. If there is no resistance and the button stays recessed, then the circuit breaker is already reset.

7. Confirm that the AC outlet is passing power by connecting another device, such as a radio or lamp, to the outlet.
8. Connect the UPS to the working AC outlet.
9. Power on the UPS by pressing the power button and holding it until you hear a beep. The green On/Off LED should now be lit.
10. Verify that the power rating of the equipment to be plugged into the battery-backup/surge-protected outlets does not exceed the UPS output capacity. To do this, add together the power ratings for each piece of equipment and compare the total requirements to the capacity of your unit, which is listed a) on the bottom of the UPS, or b) on the Product Specification tab on the Tripp Lite website's product page. If the total power draw of the connected equipment exceeds the capacity of the UPS, the load MUST be reduced to conform to the output specifications of the unit. Note: This UPS has two types of outlets: battery-backup/surge-protected outlets that DO provide battery-backup power, and surge-protected-only outlets that DO NOT provide battery-backup power.
11. Reconnect the equipment that requires battery-backup power and is within the output capacity of the UPS directly into the battery-backup/surge-protected outlets. Power on the equipment. Equipment that does not require battery-backup protection or that exceeds the capacity of the UPS can be plugged into the surge-protected-only outlets.
12. Perform a self-test by holding the On/Off button for 3 seconds and releasing it after the second beep. The unit will register an alarm while it checks internal components and will briefly operate in battery mode to ensure that it is able to power the attached equipment. If the connected devices remain operational throughout the test, then the UPS is operating properly. Another series of beeps will indicate that the test is complete.
Follow the steps below to perform a discharge reset of an AVR, ECO, Internet, or BC model Tripp Lite UPS system:
1. Power off any equipment connected to the UPS system.
2. Disconnect any devices plugged into the outlets of the UPS system.
3. Press and hold the On/Off/Test button and release the button after the UPS emits a single beep. The UPS will be powered off with no LEDs lit and no AC output from the Battery Backup Protected/Surge Protected outlets.
4. Disconnect the UPS from its AC input source. Verify the UPS is powered off by making sure that no LEDs are lit and that the UPS is no longer passing power from the Battery Backup Protected/Surge Protected outlets and the Surge-Only Protected outlets.
5. Remove the screw(s) that secure the battery door of the UPS and remove the battery door.
6. Tilt the UPS to allow the battery to partially slide away from the UPS, exposing the battery terminals. Locate the red and black battery cables connected to the battery. Using pliers, disconnect one of the UPS DC input cables, either the red or black cable, from the battery. Be sure that the cable does not come in contact with the opposite battery terminal.
7. Locate the On/Off/Test button. Press and hold the On/Off/Test button for ten seconds and then release it.
8. Reconnect the red or black UPS DC input cable to the terminal from which it was disconnected.
9. Reinstall the battery door.
10. Connect the UPS to a known working AC source. The Surge-Only Protected outlets will now begin to pass power.
11. To power on the unit, press and hold the On/Off/Test button and release it after the UPS emits a single beep. The On/Off LED will illuminate and the UPS will begin passing power from its Battery Backup Protected/Surge Protected outlets.
