Effective + Space Saver!

Comments about Tripp Lite Protect It! Surge Protector with 6 Swivel Outlets Direct Plug-In 1200 Joules Coax/Tel/Modem Protection:

At first it may seem a bit bulky, but then most direct plug-in outlet surge protectors are though usually keep within a general size across the board, however this unit features something most other units do not - a swivel option to make cord organization a bit easier for multiple devices. The amount of protection is higher than most of the plug-in wall units I'd found and came highly rated from general reviews that drew me to do additional research. I first purchased one for myself to better organize and protect my small personal media center at home after hours of research and comparison of other vendor products. I'd recently been disappointed with another company that was highly recommended to me by another computer tech and found it not able to hold up to the company's specs claim or the other individual's recommendation. My father was impressed with the specs of this unit, and he's a difficult person to please, so I ordered two more for him. I would definitely love to find a similar unit like this that features an Ethernet protection instead of the Tel/Modem connection. Then it would the be the most ideal and compact surge protector! The unit I purchased even came with a Coax and Tel/Modem cable for set up - it was a welcome surprise as this was an option I didn't notice when first looking at the unit for my purchase.

Comments about Tripp Lite Protect It! Surge Protector with 6 Swivel Outlets Direct Plug-In 1200 Joules Coax/Tel/Modem Protection:

Purchased this and other Tripp-Lite products in the last year. I moved to FL in April 2014 and in May the house took a lightning strike. Lost a big screen, printer, cable modem, NIC card in Desktop. Have had no strikes since. Will see how the Tripp-Lite products work when/if another bolt strikes.

Great access designed into a swivel outlet surge protector

Comments about Tripp Lite Protect It! Surge Protector with 6 Swivel Outlets Direct Plug-In 1200 Joules Coax/Tel/Modem Protection:

This is just what I was looking for. I need an outlet (with a surge protector) which allows me to power several devices in a cramped space. This gives me the flexibility to power devices to the left and right of my outlet. The 1200J protection is an added bonus as I attach my cable modem for strategic wi-fi setup.
Happy to find this and that it works so well.

Frequently Asked Questions

A surge protector will protect your electronics by acting as an “electrical sponge” by clamping down on spikes, “soaking them up” and converting the excess energy into heat, thus preventing the spikes from passing through the surge protector into the sensitive electronic devices and damaging them. As with any “sponge” a surge protector has a limited absorption capacity. Once that capacity is reached, the unit is no longer able to protect and must be replaced.
Select Tripp Lite Audio/Video surge protectors have a Current Usage display. This feature allows a user to monitor the amount of power being used by connected devices. Proven to be useful, this display assists in preventing an overload situation.

Here are some reasons why the Current Usage display may not operate correctly:

-The AC source to which the surge protector is connected is not passing power.
-Your unit has taken a surge hit, causing the internal components, as designed, to absorb the surge and protect the connected equipment.
    -The display may be faulty.

Follow these steps in an attempt to identify the problem:
1. Shut down all the equipment connected to the surge protector.
2. Turn off the unit and unplug it from the AC power source.
3. Unplug all the devices that are connected to the unit.
4. Check the circuit breaker on the unit to make sure it is reset.
5. Plug the surge protector into an AC power source that provides computer-grade power and turn on the unit.
6. Begin connecting the devices that were previously plugged into the unit. Monitor the Current Usage display to make sure that an overload situation does not occur.

If you have followed these steps and the Current Usage display is still not operating correctly, the unit requires replacement.
The Input Voltage display on select Tripp Lite Audio/Video surge protectors shows the incoming voltage from the AC source. The surge protector can report abnormal voltages, but it cannot regulate the power.

There are several reasons why the Input Voltage display may not operate correctly:

-The AC source to which the unit is connected is not passing power.
-The unit has taken a surge hit, causing the internal components, as designed, to absorb the surge and protect the connected equipment.
    -The LED may be faulty.

Follow these steps in an attempt to identify the problem:
1. Shut down and disconnect all devices from the surge protector.
2. Turn off the surge protector.
3. Unplug the surge protector from the AC source.
4. Check the circuit breaker on the unit to make sure it is reset.
5. Plug the surge protector into a computer-grade AC source.
6. Turn the unit on.

If the Input Voltage display still does not operate correctly, the unit requires replacement.
Select Tripp Lite Audio/Video surge protectors are equipped with IR outlets. These outlets enable you to power a specific device on or off without shutting down any other equipment. This can be done manually (via designated buttons on the front faceplate) or through the remote control that is included.

An IR outlet may not be providing power for several reasons:

-The unit is connected to an AC source that is not passing power.
-The unit has taken a surge hit, causing the internal components, as designed, to absorb the surge and protect the connected equipment.
    -The outlet may be faulty.

Follow these steps in an attempt to identify the problem:
1. Shut down and remove all devices that are connected to the surge protector.
2. Turn off the surge protector and unplug it from the AC source.
3. Check to make sure that the circuit breaker on the unit is reset by pressing the corresponding button at the rear of the unit.
4. Plug the surge protector into an AC outlet that provides computer-grade power.
5. Make sure the Power On LED associated with the outlet in question is lit. If the Power On LED is lit, then proceed to step 7. If not, press the SELECT button on the front faceplate of the surge protector one time. Proceed to the next step.
6. The IR 1 LED should now be flashing. Press the Select button until the IR # flashing is the IR # associated with the outlet in question. Press the Enter button on the front of the unit.
7. Plug a small device into the IR outlet in question at the rear of the unit. Turn on the device and make sure that it is working properly.

If you have followed these steps and the IR outlet is still not passing power, the unit requires replacement.
The Grounded or Ground OK LED light is present on select Tripp Lite 120V surge products. The purpose of this indicator light is to confirm that the surge protector is connected to a grounded AC source. If the LED is not lit, then the unit is connected to an AC source that is not grounded. To provide the maximum amount of protection, the Tripp Lite surge protector must be plugged into a grounded AC source.

Here are some reasons why the Grounded or Ground OK LED will not light up:

-Missing ground wire. (Note: This also includes using a 3-prong to 2-prong adapter.)
-A severe surge has occurred and the unit absorbed the damage, as designed, to protect connected equipment.
    -The LED is malfunctioning.

Follow these instructions to identify the problem:
1. Remove any equipment still connected to the surge protector.
2. Turn off the surge protector.
3. Check to make sure the circuit breaker is reset.
4. Plug the unit into a working and properly grounded 120V AC power source that provides computer-grade power and is on a different circuit than the one originally used.
5. Toggle the master switch to the On position.

If the Grounded or Ground OK LED does not light up, the unit requires replacement.
