Overview

For more than 20 years, America's leading companies have trusted Tripp Lite's Isobar Premium surge and noise protectors to protect sensitive computer, networking and telecom equipment. With more than 18 million satisfied customers, the Isobar remains the world's #1 selling premium surge protector. Loaded with a generous combination of high quality components, near indestructible all-metal case, unique noise filtration system and built-in single line phone suppression for modems, the Isobar/Isotel series offers the highest level of protection attainable in a multi-outlet strip. Robust surge suppression circuits with sine-wave tracking offer extreme levels of protection against the heaviest surge conditions exceeding IEEE 587 category A & B specifications and reducing 6,000V test surges to harmless levels under 35 volts. Isobar's unique protection system combines large toroidal chokes, ferrite rod-core inductors, HF/VHF capacitors and multiple layers of metal oxide varistors into exclusive isolated filter banks that remove EMI/RFI interference, even noise generated by other pieces of connected equipment. ISOTEL6ULTRA offers 6 outlets arranged in three filter banks to prevent system crashes, reboots and performance problems common when noisy system peripherals are powered off and on. Surge suppression rated at 3330 joules/92,000 amps offers network-grade protection. Widely spaced NEMA 5-15R outlets accommodate up to 4 large transformer plugs without blocking outlets. Pair of RJ11 jacks offer dual phone line surge suppression for modems, fax machines and cordless phones. Diagnostic LEDs confirm power availability, line fault and protection status. Includes 6 foot AC line cord with space-saving angled input plug, keyhole mounting tabs and a set of 4 child safety covers.

Comments about Tripp Lite Isobar 6-Outlet Surge Protector 6-ft. Cord 3300 Joules Tel/Fax/Modem Protection:

We had two computers supposedly protected by these units and they failed to prevent damage to the towers during a lightning storm. If the company contacts me and helps me with the cost of repairs to our equipment I'll change my review otherwise it is NO STARS if I could!

ISOTEL6ULTRA

By Scott

Comments about Tripp Lite Isobar 6-Outlet Surge Protector 6-ft. Cord 3300 Joules Tel/Fax/Modem Protection:

I used the plastic cheap power strips for years which would last maybe 2 years. One would cause a hum from my stereo receiver. I contacted my friends in Electronic Services Division. They all told me to buy Tripp Lite and don't waste your money on the ridiculously expensive competitors. They were absolutely right.

I bought two ISOTEL6ULTRA units, one for my computer equipment and the other for my entertainment center (Plasma TV, Surround System, DVD, PS3). Fantastic build quality and design. Rock solid and built like a tank. I don't turn it off during thunder storms and never had a problem. I won't buy anything else. I replaced my parent's protectors as well.

I strongly recommend Tripp Lite products. You won't be disappointed.

several Surge Protectors

By Jim

from Undisclosed

Comments about Tripp Lite Isobar 6-Outlet Surge Protector 6-ft. Cord 3300 Joules Tel/Fax/Modem Protection:

I have been struck by lightning over 30 times in 20yrs. I live on a mountain and have had many strong storms. I have lost many other protectors but none of the Tripp-Lites since I changed to them. I also use one in my business because I needed to protect my laptop when I am in a clients office. I lost a battery charger once in a Dr's office before Tripp-Lite. Many plants I am in have their ground wires wrong and have surges that can destroy my laptop/printer. Trippe-Lite has been 100% there to stop it.

Frequently Asked Questions

A surge protector will protect your electronics by acting as an “electrical sponge” by clamping down on spikes, “soaking them up” and converting the excess energy into heat, thus preventing the spikes from passing through the surge protector into the sensitive electronic devices and damaging them. As with any “sponge” a surge protector has a limited absorption capacity. Once that capacity is reached, the unit is no longer able to protect and must be replaced.
All outlets on a Tripp Lite surge protector are designed to pass power continuously, as controlled by the master or individual power switches, to connected equipment.

Follow these instructions in an attempt to restore normal operation:
1. Remove any equipment still connected to the unit.
2. Be sure that the master switch is in the Off position.
3. Unplug the unit from the AC power source.
4. Check the circuit breaker on the unit to make sure that it is reset.
5. Find an outlet that provides computer-grade 120V AC power. Check the outlet by plugging in a device, such as an alarm clock or radio, to verify that the outlet is passing power.
6. Plug the unit into the outlet.
7. Toggle the master switch and all other power switches to the On position.
8. One by one, connect a small device, such as an alarm clock or radio, to each outlet at the rear of the unit. Test the device to make sure that it is working properly at each outlet.

If the unit is not passing power from all outlets after these steps have been followed, the unit requires replacement.
Isobar surge protectors have the ability to minimize EMI (electromagnetic interference) and RFI (radio frequency interference) on the input AC line. However, a piece of equipment attached to the Isobar may still receive interference from other devices nearby.

Here are some common reasons why a device plugged into an Isobar may be receiving interference:
-A second device that is plugged into the same filter bank as the device receiving interference may be causing the problem.
-Another device in use nearby can cause interference through the air, not through the AC line.
-The surge protector may have taken a surge hit and requires replacement.

Follow these steps to identify the problem:
1. Unplug the device that is receiving interference and plug it directly into a wall outlet. Test to make sure that the device is working properly.
2. If the device operates correctly, proceed to the next step. If it does not operate correctly, contact the manufacturer of the device to determine the problem. There may also be another device close by that is causing interference.
3. Remove any other devices connected to the Isobar where the first device was plugged in.
4. Plug the device that is receiving interference back in into the same outlet where it was previously connected to the Isobar. Test to make sure your connected device is working properly.

If you have followed these steps and the device still does not work properly, the Isobar requires replacement.
There are three common reasons why these ports may not be working properly:

-The phone cords are not connected to the proper jacks on the surge protector.
-The phone cords are not firmly seated in the phone jacks.
-A surge has come through and damaged the phone board of the surge protector.

Follow these instructions to determine if the RJ11/phone jacks are functioning properly:
1. Remove the device that is plugged into the RJ11/phone jacks on the surge protector.
2. Plug the device directly into your signal source to verify that it is operating correctly. If the device is not working, contact the device's manufacturer for further troubleshooting assistance. If it is working, proceed to the next step.
3. Install an RJ11/phone cord from the signal source to the phone port (labeled IN) on the surge protector.
4. Plug the device you want to protect from phone line surges into the OUT phone port on the surge protector.
5. Test to make sure that the device is working properly.

If you have followed these steps and the RJ11/phone connectors are still not passing a signal, the unit requires replacement.
