Frequently Asked Questions

The master switch on Tripp Lite surge protectors, when applicable, is designed to work each time it is used. In the event that the switch does not respond when toggled, the unit requires replacement. Follow these instructions to verify that the switch is or is not working properly: 1. Remove any equipment still plugged into the unit. 2. Be sure that the master switch is in the Off position. 3. Unplug the unit from the AC power source. 4. Check to make sure the circuit breaker is reset. 5. Check the 120V AC power source by plugging a different device into the outlet. After verifying that the outlet is passing power, plug the surge protector into the outlet. The unit requires a working 120V AC power source that provides computer-grade power. 6. Toggle the master switch to the On position. 7. Attach a small device, such as an alarm clock or radio, to the surge protector to test if the unit is passing power. If these steps are followed and the master switch is still not operating properly, the unit requires replacement.
Your Tripp Lite surge protector is designed to pass power continuously to the electronic devices plugged into it when it is used under normal operating conditions as described in the owner’s manual. There are several reasons why the unit may not pass power: 1. A severe surge has occurred and the unit absorbed the damage, as designed, to protect any connected equipment. 2. The wall outlet to which the unit is connected is not passing power. 3. The circuit breaker on the unit has been overloaded and needs to be reset. Please follow the instructions below to restore normal operation: 1. 7. Connect a small device, such as an alarm clock or radio, to the surge protector to test if the unit is passing power. If the unit still does not power on and pass power, the unit requires replacement.
Most Tripp Lite 120V surge products have a Line OK LED. The purpose of this indicator light is to notify you that the building wiring is safe for use with the surge protector. In the event that the LED is not lit, please follow these instructions in an attempt to identify the problem: Remove any equipment still connected to the unit. Be sure that the master switch is in the Off position. Unplug the unit from the AC power source. Check to make sure the circuit breaker is reset. Plug the unit into a working 120V AC power source that provides computer-grade power and that is on a different circuit than the one on which the unit was originally used. Toggle the master switch to the On position. If the Line OK LED is not lit after you have followed these steps, the unit requires replacement.
